Deb_N's Journal, 18 June 2014

This week I am trying to stay away from snacks because I have a party on Saturday. Instead of being scared and worried about what I will eat at the party, especially since there will be new people I have not met before, I am looking on it as an adventure and hope I survive my eating and my shyness! Good luck to all of you!

You'll do great! Walk into that party remembering everything you've already accomplished. Enjoy yourself *and* be sensible. Nothing to fear! :)

Have a good time Deb. There may be wonderful new friends to meet. There will be temptations, but maybe keep your least favorite in your hand to reduce the temptation of picking up other yummy things that will be calling your name. Not that I have resisted much during my last few social outings. Good luck to you. J

Thank you, everyone. I'm just having irrational thoughts, like I will spill my water glass and be embarrassed. I am going to start thinking that everything will go great. I heard that if you think good thoughts, then good things will come. :)

Get a big martini glass, fill it with sparkling water, put in a cherry, a slice of lemon, a leaf of mint and ice cubes :) you can snack on a handful of almonds or wallnuts you keep close. You will do great, it is exciting to meet new people, one of them might be your next good friend... we were all strangers before we met people.

As a shy person (who everyone I know would say I'm not, but I totally am) I find that it helps if I remember to smile, that's all, I don't worry about making friends, I don't worry about talking to people, just smile. I find that if I just remember to smile, the outgoing people look after everything else for me. And smiling is easy-ish to do.

Everybody, thanks for the support. I did smile a lot and everything was great. Since I was the new person there, everyone just made me feel welcome and right at home. Lovely people and a lovely party.
