Brandy277's Journal, 04 April 2015

So I've done pretty well with the challenge but the bread cravings are overwhelming. I started taking magnesium, Dhea, and omega fish oils to help with the depression and that seems to be helping some. I hope in 2 months this phase is past me 🍀

one thing I noticed about low carb for me was the more carbs I ate the more the cravings were there. in the past I have tried limiting my carbs to 50%/40%/30%....it didn't work. it seemed when I ate them I wanted more and was very hard to stop. this time around I have cut carbs down to 20g or less a day. usually coming from veggies. I know our diets are different as I eat meat but with my carbs this low I have no cravings whatsoever. I am feeling great, mind and body. I have been in your exact situation and it sucks. it's wonderful you are taking control now, I waited way too long. Everyone tells us "you can do it" and it can seem very daunting, but you know what? WE CAN! We are so much stronger than we think. Please know that you are not alone and there are many that can relate. Good luck and have a great Easter!

Be very careful taking magnesium unless you get tested and talk to your Doctor first. Magnesium is a big thing when it comes to your heart. I'm sure the omega fish is good, but seriously, the mag--you really have to be careful. I wouldn't take it unless I was tested. Bread is one of the harder ones. The best bread I find is, Pumpernickel. I found a brand that is only 90 calories for one slice. Sometimes I will take a slice of that and put a teaspoon of Peter Pan Reduced Fat peanut butter on one slice and call it lunch! LOL.

I agree with Rckc - once I quit all the grains and starch - no more cravings at all. Those refined carbs are really all sugar once they are digested - so it becomes a bad cycle. If you are able to tough it out for a couple days, you will truly feel better. Good luck!

Try increasing protein intake. Protein makes you fuller.
