Michael-Anderson's Journal, 27 February 2015

I'm getting frustrated with myself, I know that meats are the no carb way to go but man I have know idea on how to make chicken, beef, turkey, and fish taste better after the umpteenth time eating it. I sure could use some low cost ways to fix this differently---oven baked is what I prefer with the garden variety spices. This is the reason I don't eat a lot of this stuff.
My frustration doesn't end there, I looked at the carb count today and yes I knew it was going to be quite high but I fell submissive to the lure of the dreaded "snack wraps (grilled)" McDonald's what is the hold you have on me? This relationship is over, you can keep all the stuff I just want out. (a line I've used all to many time in this life)
Better is what I must do and do it soon. So recipes any one??? Email them to me if you would please. No really PLEASE (getting desperate)

Michael. I wish you well in finding the recipes you are looking for. There's nothing wrong with making your food tasty, but the problem is that tasty tends to be our primary requirement and we find everything else taking a back seat. Sugar, Fat, and Salt. We're wired for that stuff, and it's not good for us unless it's the right type and in moderation. I found that it became easier when I approached food the way that Berry Sears did in 'The Zone" diet book. I'm paraphrasing here. (Not necessarily promoting the diet, though I have used it and I like it.) "Food is more powerful than any drug you will ever take. Eating the wrong foods for a lifetime will not be corrected by a drug down the road, it will only cover some of the consequences. You have to approach food as your drug of choice. First and foremost, get what you need from it. After that, add the flavour. Don't let the flavour rule you." It can be tough, but eating the right stuff is far more important than enjoying it. Weren't we all just talking about blended liver, protein shakes the other day? Okay. That's excessive.

more fish: Salmon. Less Chicken. Chicken is good, but, too much causes unsteable mood changes. Good luck.

Also get some medical advice, dietician/nutritionist, that can give you guidelines. You can do this!!! You have to take all the necessary steps. Get books on diabetic cooking, providing you with sound recipes for your situation. It is one day at a time!!!

I agree, Michael. We do want some flavor, etc. I use lemon, olive oil, fresh spices on my pork, chicken fish or beef. I also find what I eat with the protein helps give flavor..I am doing higher fat so olive oil, butter, etc. make most anything tasty!

I need to lose weight so I can have colon surgery & hernia repair. I have been losing some for about three years, but slacking off after a bit. So, it delays my much needed surgery. So, I am hoping that having support on here will help me.

I just picked up a fitbit on EBay. Great price if you don't mind the bidding! There are many low carb recipes on the internet. All you have to do is google low carb recipes. Good luck on your search.

My husband really enjoys when I dress up chicken with a sauce and some cheese. I usually use a table spoon of pesto, pizza sauce, alfredo, spaghetti sauce, or even some buffalo sauce. I shred a block of cheese using the smallest one on the grater. I end up using half the amount of cheese that way. I don't use extra salt or pepper because the sauces have flavor. I call it chicken crusted pizza! Sometimes I put extra toppings on top of the cheese too. It has helped him lose 15lbs by doing it this way a couple times a week. I even wrap chicken in bacon sometimes and he loves that. We eat a lot of chicken in this house. Also when I back chicken I put a little water in the dish so it keeps my chicken moist. Hate dry chicken.

I HAVE TO SAY: everyone eating Their own diet, doesn't necessarily work. or Following one of the fad diets either. (FAD as in any highly promoted diet that is guaranteed to cure your ails, AND LOSE ALL the unwanted weight...). What we need is to become a nutritionist. Find out what WE need, instead of eliminating entire food groups!!! START WITH CONSULTING A REAL NUTRITIONIST?? (NOT a doctor, who are not well trained in nutrition. and a nutritionist that isn't fat?) We need a balanced diet we can eat the rest of our lives. Takes a while to find that. and one that is actually GOOD for us. Don’t give up, you can do it. :)

Don't eat the wrap part of the wrap, there goes a lot of your carb count right there, as for making meats more interesting: I just made crockpot garlic, rosemary, and butter chicken, earlier this week we had parmesan crusted baked chicken, there was nothing left. We also had Mississippi Roast which is a roast of your choice in the crock pot with a packet of dry Au jus mix, dry ranch dressing mix, pepperoncini peppers and a stick of butter, I added garlic, sliced mushrooms, and celery slices....not a bite of it left either. Cheesy bacon wrapped meatloaf....gone! Spinach and feta chicken breasts wrapped in bacon....not a bite left. Bacon wrapped jalepeno pepper poppers are the go to snack, sometimes I top them with grated parmesan or mozzarella. If you're on facebook there are several low carb groups, and lchf groups who have tons of recipes in their files. I also like DJ Foodie and I breathe... I'm Hungry blogs tons of recipes there too.

I just bought a book about low carb cooking called Six Ingredients or Less Low Carb Cooking. The ISBN number is 978-0-942878-07-3. I've found quite a few in there that I've liked. My husband does low carb, and I eat low calorie, so when I prepare our evening meal, I make it no carb, and it was starting to get pretty boring. I also think a lot of the recipes in the Atkins books are technical and complicated. Good luck!

I use a lot of different herbs and spices in everything now and I'm trying out vegies I haven't tried before for variety. Some of the chicken and turkey sausages in the meat dept. are really good.
