DairyKing's Journal, 30 September 2014

Good Afternoon, FS Warriors! Just winding down at work, and thought I'd drop in for a journal update. Got up at 3:30 and ran 4.0 miles. It was about 60 degrees and a little breezy, so it was right cool when I started and transitioned to comfortable after about a mile. Felt pretty good considering how sore I was following the weekend.

I have to stop for a haircut appointment between work and home. DW hasn't been feeling good for a couple days - either the flu, or another kidney stone moving. I was cooking last night, so I stopped and picked up fried chicken and a baked potato for each of us at a local restaurant. I'm not counting the baked beans because they were more like pork and beans and I didn't eat them. I forget what her other side was, but she goes nuts with the sour cream and butter. One of the questions I am going to ask God when I get to heaven is if He really meant sour cream for human consumption.

I'm running 1/4 mile repeats in the morning, so I'll have to make sure I get a good warmup, so I don't pull something. Geez, I remember when I could just open the door and go run 8 minute miles. Now I have to gradually warm up so I can run at a 11:30 or 12:00 minute pace. I'm hoping it's because I'm still just a wee bit out of shape (and fat), and not because I'm not capable of getting back there. I am going to find out. I have this theory that skinny people run faster, and I'm going to investigate that further.

Well, just stopped by to say Hi; it's been a rather busy day, and I'm glad it's about over. Here's wishing all my buddies a wonderful evening. Toodles!

I have this theory that skinny people don't have bad hair days...I'm going to investigate that further. Let me know what you find out about the running thing.

Nice run! Seems you defeated the soreness. Anyone who can get up that early and run consistently has got it going on! Hope DW is feeling better.

Granted I am not skinny yet, but I will say that I have been passed by people much larger than me. I'm convinced that size doesn't necessarily determine pace though I do think that being lighter is easier on the joints.

I'm sure the lack of extra weight helps with the speed. The other day I was walking home from the market w/probably 25-30lbs of groceries in my backpack and noticed I wasn't clicking along as fast on my return as on my departure.

Yes, someone on here posted a picture of themselves holding up two large 40 lb. bags of dog food (total 80 lbs) to illustrate how much weight they had lost, which drove home to me that I initially started out running with two large 40 lb. bags of dog food on my shoulders; and I am still carrying about 55 lb. Yes, it does slow you down. Gas weighs approx. 6 lbs. per gallon, so imagine running a 5K, carrying two 5-gallon cans of gas. I think it will make a difference when I shed the lead.
