[Gets on soapbox]
Yea, I eat cookies. I have cow's milk with my espresso. I'm not even mad.

I don't like the weight-loss culture idea of "substituting" one food for another. It doesn't lead to satisfaction for me.

"Roasted parsnips, great substitute for baked potatoes!" If that works for you, that's great. I've actually been wanting to try roasted parsnips. But if I'm wanting baked potato, I'll have a sensible serving of baked potato. If I'm wanting roasted parsnips... You get the idea.

So I eat cookies. I drink two-percent. But that's 75 calories worth of very delicious cookies and less than a cup of milk. I intend to have small amounts of delicious and make sure that I'm eating plenty of fruits and veg. I concentrate on things I like that are healthier. That's my nutritional philosophy.

I heartily agree with you. I don't like the "mashed cauliflower tastes like mashed potatoes" idea or the "spaghetti squash takes the place of pasta" concept. I like mashed cauliflower okay, I like spaghetti squash, but for themselves, not as replacements. That said, I like to TRY each of the other ideas and I try the low fat versions of things. Every once in a while I find I like something low fat or a substitution just as well. I try to be open to healthy options, but I have no problem striking a healthy option off my list if I don't like it.

Yup. I do the same. That being said, SOME people have valid reasons for having to find alternatives (like insulin-resistance and/or diabetes). I am just glad I'm not one of them! I have lost 27 lbs. in 7 months by simply eating a lot LESS of the major starches (potatoes, pasta, rice, bread). I eat lots of fruits and vegetables, dairy, meat, and even SWEETS, Gods preserve us! It's what makes this journey a permanent, sustainable one, for me anyway. Thanks for posting this!

I'm on the same soapbox. I've lost 47 of 50 lbs by just cutting back and exercising. No fancy diets for me!

Yup! Everything in moderation. Me too. I love real sugar in my coffee and I love a tab of real butter over other alternatives.
