Joined TOPS online. There is a meeting locally, but I am so shy it is going to be hard to go for the first time...going it alone, with over 100 lbs to lose is also hard. Need to find the motivation and courage to go to the meeting and try something new.

I know exactly how you feel! I have a lot more to lose than you, 227 lbs in fact!

There is no need to be shy about it. The other overweight people will not judge you, they are in the same situation like you, no matter how much they have to lose.

Snezica is right and I bet you won't feel alone once you get there because you will be part of a group with the same interests at heart and who care. I would say force yourself to do it because losing weight is about pushing yourself and every time you do you feel more positive, more dedicated and more motivated. I went out last night in my new sports wear (have never dared step out the house like that before) but I did it to force myself and it felt great. That was my breaking the ice moment, this is yours!

Thanks LifeWithoutSugar, Snezica and angel_face0145 for the support. I will keep working on it !

You've got everyone here. A round the clock support group. No finger pointing or expectations. You pace yourself and there are no expectations except those you place on yourself. And it's free.

Well said ClassicRocker

ClassicRocker nailed it IMO. The great thing about being here is that there are people doing a variety of plans and people who have been very successful. I learn something new every day here.

Wow, I've never met such an active and supportive group anywhere else! You guys are really making me feel welcome. Thank-you.

what is tops? i'm very shy, but i found it easy to go to weight watchers. everyone there is in the same boat. and they are all thinking of how they look and not even noticing how you look. just give it a try!

ok, i just googled tops. i think you will get plenty of support here, as you have seen, for free. but it might be good to go to those in person meetings too. best of luck!

Thanks Gnewfry...I am really glad there is a TOPS group meeting here. I don't have a car anymore and live in a small town without public transportation, so have been getting more exercise walking and biking, but it limits where I can go. I hope if I lose some weight, that the walking and biking will get a bit easier.

i think the walking and biking WILL get easier. did you go to a meeting? is it soon?

I used to go to TOPS meetings. I haven't thought about that for years. It was a bunch of friendly old ladies, at least in my area. lol You'll be alright. I promise nobody bites.

I've been in two different TOPS groups, and all the ladies were wonderful. The groups I belonged to were a lot smaller than the groups that are in weight watchers (at least where I lived). It's nice because you actually get to be more personal with everyone. I think I'm going to look up up TOPS where I live now and join :)

@instant/ you must've taken the TOPS meeting in the same area as me! Chris, you're not alone, you'll get full of support on FS, and if you do TOPS, I'm sure they'll welcome you with open arms and a beautiful smile. They've been there and they are a support group. Best of luck. Let us know how it went!

Not to worry! it is easier than you think! I started a blog on it when I started…I think the parts called diet basics will be very helpful- it will give you a suggested plan for the take off! The first month is the hardest, it gets easier week by week and day by day. Welcome. www.mrsratfirelosesweight.com

@Maunikmtl maybe the old ladies are actually just a gang, and they travel all over the country.

Online is great but making real friends with real people and having real interactions has its good points. Overeaters Anonymous is great too.
