Yep, if anything it's the prevalence of desk jobs and technology. Netflix all day while being glued to your cell phone, etc.

Truth! Portions are bigger at restaurants, people eat out more these days cuz they're on the run all the time, folks are more sedentary, snacking while Netflix bingeing and don't even get me started on the artificial crap put in our foods these days.

there were no Pringles in 1960

Actually, Pringles was created in 1968. Just not sold widespread until the 70's. Not that it makes any difference to the actual point being made.

Honestly, Pringles would be less of a problem than bags of chips anyways. Way fewer servings per container.

And it all comes down to people not learning to say “NO”. Manufacturers only make what we are willing to buy.

It's the combination of fat and carbs that makes the best tasting food. This delicious food is high in CALORIES, which is how people get fat. No moderation and little to no activity. I got into the best shape of my life with 55% of my calories coming from the vilified carb. Sugar is also in healthy fruit. The sugar in fruit is metabolized the same as the sugar in anything else. You need a calorie surplus whether it be sugar or fat calories, it matters not. I refer you again to 31+ metabolic ward studies that prove it. Given equal calories and protein, fat loss is the same whether the calories come from fat or sugar.

Kenna I agree. We can't blame others for making us fat. People have to take responsibility. You don't go to bed one night and wake up in the morning and get fat. It's a process, being oblivious to it doesn't warrant placing the blame on others.

Don't discount the power of advertising psychology. It's not really surprising to find out that one of the pioneers of modern advertising was a disgraced psychologist named John Broadus Watson, who before his fall from grace in the psychological community, founded the prominent psychological school of Behaviorism. I'm more of a McDougal/Bandura/Ellis School than Watson or Skinner, but it's all rock'n'roll to me.

Anything you put into your mouth will deposit as fat if you eat enough of it. Developing a WOE that incorporates all food groups in moderation (aka portion contro) allow you variety, the ability to make healthier choices most of the time and the ability to enjoy some of the more fun choices once in a while. No guilt, no deprivation. And best of all, you can eat this way forever. Anyone can loose wt regardless of the diet they follow, the WOE just may not be sustainable and so the yo-yo goes up and down.

Phil— we are not sheep. Just because someone advertises the proverbial “cherry koolaid” doesn’t mean we have to drink it

Hey, Kenna Morton, I didn't suggest you were a sheep, but if you think you're immune to advertising you are.

I tried CICO for years and it just didnt work for me. I found that cutting out carbs, works for me. I feel like so many people are wound up on CICO when its not how many calories that you put in, but what kind of calories. Some are better than others. I found that for me, carbs and sugars are what keeps me fat, cutting those out, I have lost weight. Its all what works best for you, your body, and your lifestyle. Everyone if different, one pair of pants will fit me differently than someone of the same size. We are all unique.

Portions do matter. I know diablo, I eat so many carbs 😋👌🏼🍕 but following calorie counting n I’m in the best shape of my life too 💕. Yeap Kenna, somehow we just keep eating and eating, we can’t say no. But when we take responsibility like Adam said we can change things, we can stop blaming genetics (my old excuse😥) Phil here were I live u can’t drive a block without seeing a food ad. yes it can get to u, but when u got a plan it’s easier to stick to it.

I don't think it's all our fault, but we do have choices, we just don't all have the facts about all the food to make all good choices! Nan

Taking full responsibility can change things in a drastic manner. I love now knowing I’m responsible for my body n not cause everyone in my dads side is obese I am destined to be obese

Our culture is saturated with advertising, in ways we don't even think about. Capitalism is great, but never lose sight of the fact that it's all about getting into your pocket. Food ads, weight loss ads, supplement ads, people selling coaching and training services, people pushing traffic to their online enterprises, it's endemic, and it doesn't take being a sheep to not even realize you're being sold a bill of goods without even thinking about it.

Rannanmc— true, so many conflicting “facts” out there but you don’t have to know a lot to understand that eating a whole canister of those Pringle crackers (?j or pkg of Oreos probably is not a good idea.

See for me kenna that was really not an issue, as a kid yes, I would eat a bag of hot Cheetos a day. As a teen an adult my issue was eating fried food every single day
