Start Weight

Current Weight

Performance: losing 0.3 lb a week

Goal Weight
155.0 lb
Still to go: 9.2 lb
I'm 58 years old, 5'-10" floating between 155-162 lbs, and between 11-14% BF, but not always. About 4 years ago, and in approximately a year and a half, I went from 193 lb to 143-6 lb. I thought I looked great, but many approached me with genuine concerns over my health. Many even asked if I was okay. Since the majority of my friends were so concerned with my health it forced me to look at myself with a new set of eyes. Honestly, I looked gauntly; Subconsciously I couldn't see it because I was so elated with the weight I shed, and gained the confidence to keep it off. The sickly visual affect led me to weight training, all while establishing strength goals along the journey. I'm two things, OCD, and competitive. I even compete with myself. Currently I'm approx 12% BF, and would really like to get it to 10% or lower without affecting my strength or health. I've been seeking this illusive goal for over a year, nearer two. I'm 161.4 lbs, waist 29.5", and I can perform 58 good form push ups, and 33 pull ups. One thing that turns me off is listening to people routinely whine for years about their failures, yet aren't honest enough with themselves to admit that they are doing nothing more than they did before joining FS except aggravating themselves with ebbs and flows of binge eating and calorie restrictions, in an attempt to seek a goal that simply doesn't exist with that type of approach. My contention is, if you can't do it after a few years quit and enjoy some doughnuts, or love yourself enough to get out of the rut. Seek help from those who know the journey. Too many pride themselves on doing it "my way" with dismal results. Only you can do it. BTW Diets don't work! Furthermore, my pics are not for fishing. I've been faithfully married for 36 years. I post pics because I'm proud of my accomplishments, and to encourage others my age (or any age) that with hard work, determination, and a new plan we can all still look good, and be healthy.

I seem to be stalled
I hit many plateaus, if you hang in there, or in some cases make some adjustments to reflect the weight already lost and the new requirements to continue losing it will come off. I felt like it was going to NEVER shed. One thing I changed for piece of mind was weekly weigh ins, in lieu of daily, sometimes more than once. Once I got over the obsession with the scale my attitude settled out. Hang in there. If you are true it will move.

I'm just glad I'm satisfied and prefer to drink water and plain coffee over anything else. Plus I save hundreds of dollars a year.

Hi I'm pat need help losing weight any advice
Simple things to start. Give up eating in front of the TV. Don't bring in ANY junk food period. Drink water, tea or coffee with NO sweeteners (artificial or organic). Eat low GI veggies. Don't eat it if it comes from a box or a can with the exception of frozen veggies, and things like beans and tuna... If you eat once or twice a day that will have to change. Don't look at a new lifestyle of eating as a chore, see yourself as worth the choice, choose you not food. Eat to live, not live to eat. Don't lie to yourself about what you are eating and how much; you'll begin to believe it. Calorie creep is real, and if you allow it it will get you. Don't look for much motivation outside yourself, for then your success will depend on others, and other, especially strangers like this group will let you down. Only you can muster up the "want to." Kenna Morton is correct in purging the kitchen. "Cheat days" on here are guiltless days where you can sabotage yourself with everyone else's blessings. My philosophy is if the thing that has you in the situation you want out of why indulge. It's like an alcoholic celebrating his sobriety with a six pack. Stay tight to winners, and cut the losers go.
