crankybuzzard's Journal, 14 February 2018

9 months ago this week was when I decided it was time to lose weight and get into healthy mode. It took me a while to figure out how I wanted to go about this journey, but it's truly paying off.

I started out at 356# the day of my decision. I saw a picture of myself and realized that I had become something I no longer (never actually) wanted to be, and I needed to do something about it.

I dabbled with a few different plans before deciding that the LCHF was the WOE that worked best for me. It not only tied right in with my hobbies, but I could also continue to cook for my family and friends and eat MOST of what I was making.

It was HARD to get into the groove, and I learned a LOT the hard way; like eating and then looking up the nutritional information. About 2.5 months into my new way of eating, I found this group and the weight loss became a lot easier once I realized that documenting what I eat really helps me to hold ME accountable to myself, and the good folks at FS are great cheerleaders! I've also met some great people here and have become offline friends with a couple of folks here.

Daily I practice a 16/8 fast (7:00 pm - 11:00 am), try and keep my net carbs at or below 20g, and keep my calorie intake at less than 2000 per day. Also, once per week I try and do a 24 hour fast as well.

I'm writing this today AFTER breaking my 24 hour fast, and I broke it well. The picture you see is how I eat, most every day... Yes, that's a double meat bunless bacon cheese burger with onions, mushrooms and jalapenos. For dinner, I'll keep it simple, but high enough in fat to feel satiated until lunch tomorrow.

So, like I tell people all the time; It's not a diet, it's an educated eating process and the drive to get to the goal I've set for myself that's causing the weight loss!

Wednesday is almost over folks, so we are truly on the downhill side of the week now. Let's all make the best of it!

The burger was AMAZING! Now, most of it is burned off... Twice a month I have to walk the exterior of our property here at work, and the trip around is 1.71 miles... I walked half of it today and will get the other half tomorrow after lunch. Getting paid to exercise, not bad!

Do you eat that burger with a knife and fork or just go for it lettuce and all and let the pieces fall where they may. Curious!

@JeffersonDad, I do cardio 3-5 days a week (1.5-2 miles), and resistance training (weight lifting, squats, etc) 3 days. @murph, knife and fork for this one! Way too messy to just dive in!

That's where the big muscle gain comes from..from neck to calves doing the5×5 squats.l can't do them anymore cause l have fake hips & knees..go for you!

I'm not going for the big muscles and such... I'm after my "fighting weight" from 2002. I'll never have the "6-pack" or flexibility I had then, but I'm trying to do the best an almost 52 year old fat guy can do!
