Koby1964's Journal, 09 November 2017

Having a low day, I have been soooo good and so strict on this Keto journey. I lowered my RDI to 1270 two weeks ago (was 1500), I have the past two weeks consistently kept the carbs under 20g per day (often under 10!), struggle at times to keep the fats up, but have taken to eating a TBSP of coconut oil daily, drink lots of water, daily do IF 18/6, excercise when I can, but..... losses are minimal.
Had a bad day yesterday and my son made a fav meal, usually I will eat what I can and make some salad to supplement, but I thought what the hell, I have been so good and nothing... So I had a bit of a carb load yesterday. Not too bad, 37g, but it made me obsess - guilt.
I've got to refocus, can anyone help with advice as to how I kick up a gear?

Koby, as far as Keto goes, it is a more a way of eating rather than a diet. You really did well by handling it within that meal. You kept track even though you had a some extra carbs. You faced it square! That is the hardest aspect of Keto...keeping on it ...being honest about the slip up and focusing on the next meal + admitting it to yourself and the community when you fall short. One meal...just think about that...you are back....you are a success. Look at your weight history graph! Keep coming . Also, remember "stalls" are very much a part of Keto. Check out this you short tube video. Nurse Cindy explains Keto stalls from glucose to fat burning. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xF3rmi4DJAw . My best to you.

I have checked your diet journal randomly and I have regular noticed your intake of vodka. That might be the cause as according to some websites, alcohol of any kind can really hinder your weight loss. Here is some reference but there are a lot on the internet: https://www.bodybuilding.com/content/5-ways-alcohol-hinders-fat-loss.html

Don't be surprised if the extra carbs for one day result in a 'whoosh' in the next few days. Sometimes after being strict keto for a while, jangling the body with a few extra carbs kick-starts something.

Don't be too hard on yourself. I fell off the wagon and I am only just climbing back on from this day. I got my butt out of bed at 5.45am to pound the pavement climbing the steepest hill and almost trying to run up ( with no such luck) but I completed the climb not once but twice this morning, I just hope that I can keep it up over the weekend when things can get really hectic. Have a great weekend

I eat 20g carb, 65g protein per day. Have dropped from 90 kg to 75 kg. But I only lose weight when calories <1100. At 1270 I would maintain, at 1500 I would put it back on...... So frustrating - as I am aiming for 70 but find <1100 hard to keep up permanently.

At 37g of carbs your body is still in ketosis. I have found that carb cycling is really beneficial for getting through the times when things have slowed down. I agree with Mskestrela, occasional higher carbs kick starts your body and is really beneficial. Have a look into "carb cycling" it is worth it. :-)
