BulletProof3's Journal, 24 November 2015

Good morning, FS!

Sitting here this morning self reflecting, and evaluating the plan I've been following. While I think the "Bulletproof Diet" is great for someone who doesn't need or hasn't experienced the joys of being keto-adapted, I don't think it's for me. Mainly because of the carb cycling. It's funny how a carb addict's brain only needs to hear a few times that "you need a few carbs" before one decides to jump ship. I am almost certain that my mojo lies in full blown ketosis, and I'm on my way back to find it. :)

So... Here's to trial and error, and never giving up! *raises BPC*

Hope everyone has an awesome day!

Also, someone mentioned in another post that the UTIs may have been from my body detoxing (I can't find it to thank them, but you!). I think they may have been right, since it always found randomly. I never have symptoms. NOTE TO SELF STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM DOCTORS! lol

What does "BPC" stand for? Bullet proof concoction?

I've only read about the first 100 pages, but he talks about Dr. Atkins a lot. It really gets into ALOT of scientific research.

@ Jill...BulletProof Coffee. Coffee with coconut oil & REAL butter, blended in blender for 20-30 seconds.

I'm glad you have found a way of eating that works for you. The most important part is to find something that works for you and stick with it. It is a lifestyle change not a diet.

Right, CatHerder. Thanks!

Jill, I put 1tbs coconut oil, a squirt of sugar free syrup, and a touch of artificial sweetener in my BPC. I skip the butter to save on calories and still get the boost of energy. Helps with intermittent fasting so not hungry til late afternoon/evening

While I don't think I have ketosis nor have I done carb adapting I can certainly understand I cannot eat carbs for the time being. It's hard to go beyond my set point and that's where I am at present

LOL - that is EXACTLY why I decided I could not do the protein fast and the refeed carb day of the BP diet. I have to be careful about the carbs and or dairy. I atre a little cheese on Saturday and stay bloated for three days!

Have you considered counting total carbohydrates? Everything but true fats have carbs in them. The great thing is veggies and meats have very little carbs so you can eat lots of them! I believe most things in moderation is OK. I'm not going to say I can't have this or that because everything God gave us is good! Proud of you for staying on the search for what works best for you...take a day off on Thursday :D

HCB - I saw the recipe someone put up yesterday for BPC and it was a cup of coffee, tbsp. of butter, tbsp. of coconut oil, and tbsp. of cream. It didn't froth up like I was expecting (though I probably had closer to two cups of coffee) and honestly, it just tasted like fat to me. There's probably a better way to describe it, but that's all I can think of. I see you don't use cream, do you think that's the difference?

@Rckc, I leave out the butter from time to time, just to experiment. I am hesitant about taking it away completely because it's very nutritious. @ Saun7, Good luck with your journey! @HCB, I should have known better. The thing is though, I didn't crave any "bad" carbs so I thought it went ok, until I noticed that I HAD to have that sweet potato everyday. @Spellspirit, I know you remember when Eve tempted Adam with the apple?? LOL I don't plan on taking Thursday completely off, maybe stray away from the (re)induction phase a little though. ;)

Nikki, did you use grass fed butter and a blender?

I'm happy to rely on the experience of others so that I don't have to experiment with something that might not work for me. I've lost a lot of weight since June without any supplements or following a guru with a secret, other than the science of ketosis that Dr. Atkins advocated for but certainly never tried to take credit for discovering. I'm anti-sugar and anti-starch, but there's a place for both in any diet over the long term. I use the militant approach to "low-carb/no-carb" because I was severely obese and I still have a lot of weight to lose. Once I reach my goal, whenever that is, I'll start adding back some of the stuff that I won't even humor at this point, but some things will never be welcome back on my acceptable foods list, junk food, processed food, snack cakes, etc., I think there's no way to lose following that line of thinking!

Love BPC, and while the good fats are there, I agree that I'd rather get them in other places/meals (I personally enjoy breakfast too much and for me, it's either BPC OR eggs in butter & bacon, but not both). I have been doing as SpiritSpell suggests (watch total carbs) it really has been working for me. Try 70/15/15. You might be surprised.

Philmack, that is the approach that seems to work best for me too. I've noticed that I can maintain at around 50 total carbs, but definitely not lose. Anything above that sets off my fight or flight for sweets. @Monique, I think the upper range that works for me is more like 75/15/10, but closer to 80/15/5 works even better. Probably because I am metabolically broken.

Yes to the blender, though maybe not a full 30 seconds. I used real butter, but not grass fed. Maybe that was the difference?
