Wow, that feels like a lot in a short period of time. By the way, crows will remember your face for many years and tell each other everything that happened, literally there are long discussions at the end of every day. They will be watching out for the young man with the pellet gun for a long time.

It’s really not safe anywhere, especially for women. What state are you in? I’m in rural TN and I am still very cautious. I’ve had way too many bad experiences in my lifetime. Perhaps put some bear spray on a keychain.
I’m sorry to hear about the crow as well. I’m trying to make friends with mine but they are not interested. 😂. They are highly intelligent creatures.

TRachael i started with the squirrels but then felt bad for them. There is an entire murder of crows that live somewhere around here. I mean like 50-70. So i started giving them peanuts too.. i take 5 handfuls a day to give out then give the 2-4 that follow me home about 10 more. I also started to whistle before i would throw a peanut to get their attention and now when I whistle usually a couple will show up out of nowhere and notify the rest.. i only do this at the park. I dont want to piss off my neighbors nor do i want 50+ birds over my house😂. I did a bunch of reading about them and discovered they are highly intelligent. They hold grudges. They DO remember faces and they live for 20-30 years. They are like geese. Mate for life tho will take a new partner if spouse passes away. They have funerals for their dead so best to leave them till the funeral has happened. They will bring presents. They bring my daughter little things we would think are garbage but they think of as treasure. Little pieces of shiny string, buttons, small rocks. UW did a huge study on them a few years ago and i read about them thru the study. Fascinating. I used to find them annoying because of the “CAW” and the movie Birds with tippi hadron but now i find them amazing. They can also mimic words. O boy i could go on. I do love animals. My heart is much bigger for those who dont get to vote for themselves what happens to their care. Keep leaving treats for yours. It takes time.

I hear ya. My neighbor is a total creep and he has pulled some creepy stuff on all of the women in the neighborhood. The police come out to talk to him but he doesn't care. He just continues on as usual.

Fatd1960 awful as it sounds i hope that karma shoots that young man right where he deserves to be . He needs to be imprisoned. We all know what the precursor to harm to humans starts (i had to censor myself and make this softer than what i am really thinking). My little friend had called the police and they gave her a whistle. I forgot to say that and had her buy pepper gel (not spray) and the 2nd time she saw the white car she took out her whistle and the vanished or maybe was 3rd time. One time her husband rescued her and one time she had the whistle. I carry something with me but that is because we have cougar and bear and coyotes that try and co-exist next to our housing areas. Protected wetlands and forest. Last summer the furry family and hubs and i were in the back area that is woods on both sides and heard something very big following us for about 1/4 mile in the woods. That was enough for me i dont go down that ravine area anymore. There were no other humans out at that time just us and it freaked me out even with my big golden retriever. My little 20 pound pomsky would just be a snack.

Morticia i truly believe in karma but sometimes karma is going to happen in the next life. I once lived across from a pretty nasty woman who was my mom’s age. She caused so much angst for so many of the neighbors but it was more nuisance stuff than harm. I couldnt imagine.

So sad 🙁 It’s that way everywhere.

I know exactly what you mean. I'm sad that you can't feel safe in your own neighborhood. The world is crazy right now...Don't know what or why this is happening! Even though I live in Vegas, my neighborhood is in a suburb south of the strip. I know lots of people in my neighborhood and feel relatively safe. I turn my watch to GPS me when I walk as well. Makes me feel a bit safer. Wish the world was a nicer place. 🩷🩷🩷

Diana my daughter lived in Henderson for a few years. I still have a friend that lives there. Nice gated community loads of folks have pools. I would feel safe there also i think. I always felt fairly safe up here. It looks like something out of a movie. . All the sidewalks are lined with trees on both sides and manicured with pretty landscaping. There are benches here and there on the sidewalks to sit and rest if you like and there are always a ton of people walking, walking their dogs, jogging, bicycling etc. i wanted to live here for years before i could afford to. It looks peaceful and pretty. But drugs, folks that cant make a living legally or dont want to etc seem to have infiltrated everywhere. And of course, the plain old garden variety evil human that exists just because. I miss the days of my ignorance of what was happening around me. I also wish the world was a nicer, safer place. John Lennon had it right in so many of his songs. Imagine🥰

All of your stories and experiences are heart wrenching. I can empathize with everyone. I believe our world is in the situation it is because our country is poorly run. We (Americans) certainly are not being protected from the evils of open borders. Our local law enforcement needs to be supported to keep our communities safe. If local government doesn’t step in and get the support (state and federal funds), each of our towns, rural or otherwise will become worse yet. We won’t be safe anywhere. It is sad and I agree 100% with all of you. But it WAS and IS preventable. We have to open our eyes and realize who’s intentionally hurting all of America. I’m for immigration BUT ONLY if it’s done properly and via an intentional vetting process. We need to change how Washington DC is run and take our country back. We can do that by voting people in local office that agree with our views. And we each have a voice through our vote in the Presidential race. Put aside how you feel about DJT and ignore how his comments may have hurt someone’s feelings. Hurt feelings are better than women/people being killed in their own backyards. Or on a walk through the beautiful park they grew up in. Food for thought my friends. We are not ignorant people. We need to stand up for what is right and good. We need to take America back. Vote correctly and protect your freedoms. Because right now we’re living in fear and it feels horrible.

It's hard all over even in the "good" neighborhoods! So easy to get in trouble if there are people who want to do us harm. I hope you stay safe!

The old saying came to mind when reading your story... safety in numbers. Maybe you can organize walls each day with a few of your neighbors who like to walk each day. Set a time and place to meet and walk together.

Crows are smart. Heard a man in England (London?) trained them to pick up trash and properly dispose of it for a snack. Now he has a very clean neighborhood. They work for bird food.

Yippee ki yay-they are so so smart. I had one today following me home and this is the first this has happened. Normally they fly 20’ or so in front of me and land on a tree and i drop a peanut behind me (keep in mind i walk with a 75 pound dog and a 20 pound dog so they are cautious). Anyway, this crow today has been with me for about 4 miles and i am almost home and he decides to land in the grass strip that lines the sidewalks about 10’ in front of me and watches me intently. He hopped into the street when my dogs were about 3’ from him and i flipped him a peanut on the sidewalk admonishing him to stay out of the street (yes i know that sounds silly). Was pretty amazing tho considering the dogs.

Be aware of your surroundings, be careful and cautious. The way of the world today is changing rapidly. Look out for yourself when out alone.
None of us ever dreamed that a walk, a grocery store trip or an afternoon movie would leave us feeling unsafe. All take good care! ☮️

Your instincts kicked in and you are smart to heed them….I would suggest you never walk or run alone or even with a dog…..perhaps get the group you speak of together and form a club to exercise together….?

These things are terrifying and the world has a lot of insanity that is totally mobile. They have no respect for boundaries or others in their midst. I am so sorry to hear this has happened and shaken your sense of safety and joy in your spot on the map. Prayers for protection, provision and peace...for all of us.
