GigiDunaway's Journal, 27 January 2024

Well, it's January 87th and we still have a week of it left. 🙄 You can always tell a Southerner who suffers from seasonal depression because they whine from December 1 to April 1. Two weeks of arctic blast did not help my attitude.

In less than a year, I lost 41 lbs and I met my 1st and 2nd goal weights. I would like to get down to 130ish, but I need to hit the pause button for a minute.

This month has been brutal. Two car breakdowns, three extended (and expensive) stints in the dentist chair, a couple of professional setbacks, a family member's house fire, and some devastating news about someone I love ... I need to take a break instead of trying to push on and hitting a brick wall.

So instead of abandoning a year of progress, I'm going to set my calories to maintenance level and just hold my ground until things get better.

Maybe the extra calories will be enough to help me finally build a little muscle mass. 🙂

Is 2024 being good to anybody???

I think that's a good plan. I never thought of just doing maintenance when I'm struggling instead of abandoning ship completely. I'm a transplanted Californian and I whine through both the extreme hot and cold seasons. 🥶🤣

AncientHippie, NoCal or SoCal?

SoCal, so used to pretty even temps throughout the year. 🤣

Yeah, SoCal does not experience life like the rest of the planet. 🤣 We have comfortable temperatures in Alabama twice a year. Once on the way up to 100 and again on the way down to 20. 🙄 We can always tell when the thermometer is on the move, because tornadoes. 🌪️ 🤣 Fun times.

I had a tense beginning to this year when two separate routine health check ups resulted in call backs and further investigations. But it all came clean—for now at least there is no sign of cancer. Whew!😅

Just take a moment and breathe. If you need to go into a maintenance phase, just remember to eat sensibly. Maintenance can be challenging as well as it involves balance of what meals/ foods you can eat without overindulging. Be sure to keep active as well. I hope things get better and begin to resolve themselves! 💜

Not a Winter fan either. SAD is in full swing for me and lots of others here. Very little sun in winter here. I hear you on just trying to maintain. Plenty of crap going on here too and no end in sight.

Agnes, thankful with and for you!!! A clean bill of health is reason to celebrate!!! 🥳 Two people I love dearly got the dreaded C diagnosis. Praying their story ends with a V! Diana, yes, I'm definitely tracking everything, even my supplements. And I am still working out. 3x week weight training, 2x week stretching and mobility exercises. ❤️❤️❤️ I've come too far to lose my progress! Plus, I gave away all my fat clothes, so I can't afford to gain it back. 🤣 Morticia, gurrrrrl, SAD is real and it don't play I started some seedlings indoors to remind myself that winter doesn't last forever. ❤️

Oh, Gigi, I am celebrating and just so deeply thankful. I too pray for all people, including the dear ones in your life, who are in the fight with cancer. May they stay strong through their ordeals, victory is likelier now with more advances and therapies. About the SAD: I don’t know if you ever checked your thyroid function at different times of the year but I find mine goes low January to April. I’ve been living through it year after year but if my fatigue and low moods get worse, I’ll have to finally address it with an endocrinologist.

Agnes, I looked up the symptoms of hypothyroidism and you could be right. I'm the list I scanned, I have about half those symptoms. I'd chalked most up to menopause, and the others to just the weight loss. But you got me thinking. I'm going to schedule an appointment with my doctor. Thanks for the heads up!!

So sorry 😞 Prayers for you! You sound like you have a good game plan. Hang in there.

Sometimes taking a little break helps kick start the weight loss again. Just hang in there and don’t do what I did. I gained back all the weight I lost! So here I am again and trying to be smarter this time. Older women need much more protein in their diets. I am striving for a percentage of 40/30/30 combination (40 carb, 30 fats, 30 protein) but it sure is hard to get that protein percentage up that high.

I swear it's the TIMEs. Just trying to do the next right thing. Am particularly grateful for the people here and at home. That for me is uplifting. So its the little things that help me with the bigger things. It cold out there but we are here and trying.
