Sparxx43's Journal, 03 October 2015

Have spent the last 4 weeks doing push ups adjusted to be easier as I couldn't do a proper form push up. Now I'm going back to the beginning of the program to do it with proper form. So first exhaustion test was 13. Which is the same figure as the exhaustion test on my knees 4 weeks ago. So I've built up so strength.

Used bike before breakfast instead of after today. Some people enjoy working out on an empty stomach so I thought I'd give it a go, but it's not for me. Maybe it's too early in the morning.

I find that any exercise is best done when you feel at your best, which for me at least is not first thing in the morning :) I remember walks before meals to apparently build up an appetite, and the gentle walks after a meal to help digestion, of the 2 I prefer the latter. :)

I felt awful after that. Though I have come to the conclusion that me and bikes don't really mix. I love strength training and hate most types of cardio. There's a nice gym near me that I'll go an investigate next week.

This is the problem with the majority of people, they overdo things to start with, then loose faith. My philosophy is act like a new born, although my mind tries to tell me to go for it. A new born learns to crawl, taking its time to build up muscles, it then learns to take its first steps, building up slowly at each stage. Have you actually tried walking around on your hands and knees, get some knee pads first, but it is not the easiest thing to do. :) My point is that whatever you do, build up slowly and get your body used to the newer activities.

I appreciate the advice. There's nothing wrong with the strength in legs. I'm not giving up on a new activity either. I just don't like the stationary bike. I find it dull. It's the only form of equipment I have at home at the moment. Besides a hula hoop which I just went back to. My thought was that it didn't take much energy. But I've found if I engage my abs and increase the rpm to my absolute max...it's exhausting. Which is what I was looking for.

I know what you mean by the stationary bike, I have it set up so that I can watch TV at the same time. I have always found endurance to be harder for me, thus the bike training indoors, however I can see you want more of a challenge by what you say.

hi sparxx43, did you manage your original push up challenge? I know what you mean about the best time to train. A lot depends on what type of training you do as well. I don't like first thing in the morning I much prefer lunchtime then have my lunch after. The thing about doing cardio first thing is that if you do it before breakfast you have a glycogen debt so therefore you hit the fat stores as the energy provider a lot quicker. But what it doesn't take into account is that if you don't like doing something you will stop, unless you have very good willpower but well done on you exhaustion test and the weight loss, like you I don't like stationary bikes. I do use spinning bikes but only occasional

I did four weeks for of the original push up challenge. So I got to 79 in a test. I never intended to do it right to the end. I wanted to do it without adjusted push ups. I was just appalled at my inability to do a proper form push up, I thought I'd do it an easier first, to build up some strength. I expected to be able to do at least 25, so I'm not happy with 13 in the exhaustion test. But I'm on the second week, so I do another test soon. I'm happy using a stationary bike, but it getting used to. I prefer the one I have at home to the one in the gym surprisingly.....
