Sparxx43's Journal, 24 September 2015

I've changed back to a dance hula hoop. Was using a weighted one, which is good for a core workout but (for me personally) not so much cardio. I find the weight of the hoop almost sticks it to my waist. A dance hoop is much more about cardio....you need to keep up your speed and rhythm. I do other core exercises including the challenge on here. I've picked up the hoop at the wrong time of year really...I live net door to the green belt, would have been nice to go over there in the sunshine. I'd love to find a workshop....have 3 or 4 lessons so I can move beyond waist hooping. But there's nothing near me that I can find.

I'm in awe of anyone that can keep up skipping. I get so exhausted within a few minutes it's quite worrying. Hooping is about the right level for me. When I get tired I lose my rhythm and have to stop. Just did my push ups. Wasn't as awful as I thought it'd be. Probably making it a bit easier for myself than I was. In the previous weeks I was trying to get them over with asap, now I'm taking my time and pacing myself. Pausing for 90 seconds between sets instead of 60 seconds. Spacing my hands further apart which makes it easier, don't know if that's cutting corners.. 4 sets - 21,25,21,21 My max after sets - 36 (min was 32)

Yes! I have a weighted hula hoop. It really does work out the core! How long do hula hoop for? You should make up a challenge with that, Lol! Hula buddy! Would love to buddy up with you guys. Letty x

@LettyTomy - The weighted one I didn't do for very long at a time..maybe 10/15 mins. It's great for the core, but I just changed back to a dance one. It's good for the core too, but in a different way. It's very light so I have to spin it very fast in order to keep it up. At the moment I can only do 30-40 mins before I get too tired. Since I wrote that journal I've found a four day workshop in St Margarets. Thought I'd go to it and learn some tricks.

good effort well done, the longer rest will help to give creatin system a chance to replenish itself.

now here is an idea to make things a bit harder. get a a pair of dyno disc (or a wobble board) then stand on it (or them if its the discs) and then use your hula hoop, it will give the core a double whammy, as you are moving because of the hula hoop you have to keep the core strong or you will fall off the board. It will become frustration but time yourself each time and try to beat the time, trust me after a while you will know you have been working. You can also use the disc for press up one hand on each disc and they just wobble, its the same with squats one foot on each disc. They are just rubber disc that you blow up, the more air you put in the harder it is to balance. (they may be called balance discs). Go to amazon and put in balance or stability discs. Can be hard work good for core and excellent toner
