STATEMENT : Even when people are consistent with their training times, strength increases are generally slightly higher and muscle gains up to 84% higher have been found when training in the evening instead of the morning. Comments?

I'd be out of luck if this were the case. I'm done by the end of the day. My energy level sweet spot is noon to 4 PM 😊

Thanks for the reason to not hit the gym in this 5 degree weather. maybe later. jk. I'm going. I'm going. I am interested though I think any difference would be negligible-right?

I think someone cleaned out a male bovine stall to achieve much difference. Show up. Don’t use time of day as an excuse.

I'm no good for anything in the evening. When I belonged to a gym I went first thing in the morning.

Interesting but you would think it would not matter the time of day unless it has something with fueling your body during the day compared to morning workouts you have not ate anything all night. Of course there are a lot of intermittent fasting people on this site so they probably have a theory.

Morning person here and hit the gym at 5. For me this time gives me the most focus and a rested mind.

Do it when you can. Just do it. Over thinking and micro managing just a bit.

I agree with Kenna. I resisted joining my friends for exercise classes because I didn't want to commit to having to leave the house in the morning forever. Working independently at the Gym I can go at a time that works for me. I still get to have my morning coffee & routine then head out early afternoon.

If you study exercise and nutrition long enough you will realize that everyone has a theory that is the gospel according to XYZ. Then a few years later it all gets debunked. If you are a professional body builder, weight lifter maybe all these fine nuances make a difference but for MOST of us, we have a life outside the gym and are just trying to have functionally strong muscles, agility, flexibility, weight control and feel comfortable in our own skin. Do what works for you in your busy lives. Stay active. Do your strength training when you can, and walk.

I am always skeptical of statements that include "up to" in the benefits - my mileage always always varies and rarely hits the promised limit. So sure some people might get better gains but really almost double? Seems like there has to be some unlisted variables related to that!

OK.

Interesting! I like to do my workouts before 10 am. I feel like it sets the tone for my day. The only benefit for me as a retired person would be that it would get me moving in late afternoon/ early evening. It's when I find myself in front of tv...I have started walking around my neighborhood in the late afternoons to help with that. I weightlift 6 mornings a week as well

And I like working out later to clear my brain of the chaos and clutter. That said, years of 5:30 AM pool sessions made me very productive for a long time. Cardio on the mornings then, strength in the afternoons a couple of days alternated with more cardio.

From a strength and muscle gains perspective Jeff Nippard has a vid on YouTube and says; Work out when we feel the most energetic in our day if possible. Some cardio prior to lifting is good but could also be done after. Allow time after workout for a full post nourishment meal before regular sleep times.
