it's one of the bananas from my banana plants, Fritzy. I can't remember the name, but it's not a Cavendish banana like all the ones in the store. it's creamier and sweeter. hoping I've got the stand of plants back on the right track again after a few years of non-production. you can see the bunch hanging in my other post.

I read somewhere that you have to cut the plant back every year and that each plant produces only one bunch, on new growth.

it's even more complicated than that. the "pups" can draw energy away from the main plant that blooms and you'll have a weak harvest. that said, I don't ever want 150 bananas all coming ripe the same week ever again. that was my first year here and it was -- bananas! everywhere. I gave some away, peeled and froze a bunch and got tired of them. now, I appreciate a limited number.
