Linda Marmon's Journal, 30 November 2014

Nov 30,2014 I crawled out of bed early today, weighed 257.6 lb. and checked my fasting blood sugar...140, a little lower than usual. Breakfast consisted of some bites of leftover-from-Thanksgiving ham, and a hot cup of instant coffee. I wait on my hubby to get up before I make coffee because he deserves fresh coffee. But today, we didn't have coffee. We began our new walking regimen. I made it 1/2 mile my first day, and Rob did 3/4 mile. Our reward was our usual Sunday lunch at our local "Golden Oak" Chinese Buffet. I had 4 bites of rare prime rib, maybe 6 bites of barbeque pork ribs, 1 bite of what is usually awesome fish but was lousy today. I had 6 deep-fried shrimp and maybe 10 little clams simmered in chicken broth. I also had 1 cup mac and cheese and 1/2 cup spinach. Ate too much, and we both were miserable the whole drive home... takes an hour to get home. Then a nap. I think we aren't going to eat supper, maybe a little soup of something light.
257.6 lb Lost so far: 1.2 lb.    Still to go: 58.6 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.
losing 4.9 lb a week

kudos to you and your hubby for starting a walking regimen! You will find that it will help keep your blood sugar down. It does wonders for mine :)I understand your misery from overeating...uggg. Yesterday was my family's Thanksgiving meal and though I didn't do too bad in the amount I ate, the types of food I was eating (too rich and fatty) did not agree with me and my tummy was not happy all night long. It wasn't all that long ago that that was my normal way of eating, but now that I have been eating healthier I can really tell when I have something junky :( Keep up the good work!

Dump the carbs and your blood sugar should go down to nominal since then, if you have a normal liver, the glucose that you need and only what you need is made by the liver from the protein that you eat. My blood glucose is 90 after 6 months of as low carb as a I can. That 90 glucose was tested an hour after a meal, zero carb, of course.. The 1 cup mac and cheese was a whole bunch of carbs which probably caused an insulin spike that then crashed and that is why you felt so lousy on the drive home and then needed a nap while your insulin stored it away into your fat cells.

I'll be happy if my sugar stays 110-120. When I get down below 110, I begin getting shaky. My doctor is encouraged but would like to see progress.

If I can make a suggestion...avoid all you can eat buffet restaurants. I find that they encourage overeating. I avoid them. Many chain restaurants have nutrition information on their websites. Before going out to eat, I check them and figure out what to order before I leave the house. Keeps me to my daily calorie intake.
