Need feedback on Atkins 2nd time around
I was on Atkins but went to a more severe "as low carb as possible" diet. Believe me, it is almost impossible to get carbs out of my life. But in any case, since you are now reducing the amount of carbs you are eating, now you need to lower the calories, because now, without all the insulin spikes from the "8-12 servings of grain a day" death-by-food-pyramid, calories-in actually starts to mean calories-out, so the less calories in you eat, keeping the carbs as low as possible, the more your body now must open up the fat cells to provide the energy your body needs.. this implies eating enough protein so your body doesn't eat away your muscles. What I am doing is a High Fat (and that includes as much saturated fat as possible) and Moderate Protein diet, giving myself between 90-100 grams of protein a day and the rest fat up to about 1200-1300 calories a day and lots of vitamins and probiotics. This is the secret and the hardest part of this, but a lot easier without the carbs and the insulin spikes. This regimen gives me an energy deficit of almost 1000 calories a day as I call myself light active. This means that that works out to almost 1/3 pound a day. I have 50 pounds left to go, with almost 50 lost so far. With the lack of carbs, there is no insulin effect preventing the fat cells from opening up.

Oh, also.. I wouldn't stress out about the speed as long as you have consistent weight loss. In fact, your rate seems really good, and too fast may cause you other problems such as protein wastage. Keep it consistent and don't give up until you get to your goal, no matter how much your fat cells try to force you to feed them. Once you get to your target weight, you can then eat as much as you want as long as you keep the carbs low as then there is no insulin spike to store fat, so it gets used or excreted without being stored. That's the secret to keeping it off after losing it.

Good luck!
