Shrinking Sonya's Journal, 04 April 2011

Wondering if anyone on here has some sound advice for building up my running skills. As of right now, I'm doing well to walk a couple miles. I want to become a runner, and have NO idea how to even start! Obviously common sense says just start and keep trying to lengthen the time I can run, but any other tips? Suggest shoes for FLAT feet? Any suggestions are welcomed :)

Check with the sporting goods store on shoes with arches maybe. I just got back to running frmo a severe ankle sprain. You can start in increments, .10 of a mile start jogging and increase distance a bit at a time. You can do best to google beginner running programs. You have to also make sure you stretch good before and after so you don;t injure yourself.

Check out Kstubbs journal, she has how she started running and it is really helpful! Get a good pair of runners ($50 is a good starting point), and start slow the C25k program is good, and you can always modify it.

Oh and for the shoes go to a running/sports store so they can make sure you have the right shoes for your feet!

Ha! I totally did just write a big long journal post saying exactly what I did to get started. March 31st journal entry. If walking 2 miles is still a challenge, then make sure you're doing it consistently so that you can comfortably walk 3 miles in an hour or less. If you can't do that at least a few times a week, running is probably ambitious at this point. But not out of reach! Read my journal, happy to answer any questions if you have them. Inbox me.
