Just under 26 miles today and averaged just below 13 mph (there were more hills than I expected - total gain of 500 ft. but not all at once). It really makes a difference to ride with people that are better than you - I pushed myself and two hours on the bike went by so fast in the company of interesting people. Plus I burned over 1000 calories!!

Way to go! Having strong people to ride with can be a fun challenge as long as you don't let it make you feel defeated. I often go ride with a friend who is WAY faster than me and his friend who was on the 1988 Olymic cycling team. "Riding with the big boys" I call it. Helps me remember I'm not as fast as I think I am. When I want to feel better, I make the friend captain a tandem. That way we both work hard but try as he might, he just can't drop me!! LOL!!

LOL. That's hysterical. I didn't feel defeated, but definitely realized I have a lot more work to do. I plan on doing indoor cycling training with a group of very good cyclists this winter - that should kick me into shape by spring (or possibly kill me).
