Sandy701's Journal, 22 July 2013

Well, I survived the 2 dinners out this past weekend. I just did the best I could but didn't go ultra-strict. When I had something not low-carb, I made sure that what I was eating was really good in flavor. No sense using indiscretions on mediocre food! LOL!

But it's time to get this show on the road!!! I'm tired of just sitting in the 150's, thinking that I'm cutting back, maybe even depriving myself, and yet the scale numbers stay in that same dratted range!!! If I put forth the effort, I expect to see results. Obviously, something, somewhere, has changed and/or is not working the way I'm thinking it ought to.

So, maybe back to logging food for awhile. I found an interesting thread over on some low-carb site, called the meat and egg fast. I wouldn't consider it a "fast," but rather just pulling the carbs down to as close to zero as possible (after all, even eggs have small amounts of carb in them). It also seems to me to be rather close to Dr. Westman's "No Sugar, No Starch" version of low-carb.

Whatever you want to call it, it just restricts carbs. The "fast" is intended to go 3-5 days; however long it takes to deplete one's stores of glycogen in the liver. We'll see. I just know I need something to jar my system a bit and get me out of this boredom/struggle mentality!

Finding that new mental focus is hard because I still believe that low-carb is the way to go, not only for weight loss but for major health benefits in preventing many of the major health problems this country faces. I am not looking to go off onto any other WOE.

So.....Onward with the Labor Day Blitz!

Doggies and I couldn't get out walking due to rain. I dreaded facing the Stairmaster when I noticed it had stopped raining. Still too wet outside for the dogs, but it was perfect for swimming in the pool. So that became my exercise for the day.

LATE EDIT: VERY hungry late today, but I suppose it's to be expected, given the weekend foods and my carb restriction for today. I had my dinner steak about 4PM because I was hungry. Then later, I was still hungry, so I had a serving of spinach quiche....then a strip of bacon....then STILL hungry about 8PM, so finally broke down and had another scrambled egg with some coconut oil mixed in. As of 9:30PM, I'm still just a wee bit hungry, but it's not the nagging, "real" hunger I had earlier so I think I can just grit it out for the rest of the night.

All dietary parameters look right in line for today, although I thought I'd have been able to drop the carbs a bit further. What I do have is still very, very low carb for me.

Hi Sandy, sorry you are struggling. I too believe that low carb is the way to go for general health though I have upped my carb intake lately, well not upped it really more that I've eaten more things with carbs in them and watched calories more than usual. I was thinking about your hunger - nothing worse than hunger - and you said you had coconut oil in because you fried with it. Have you tried taking a spoonful of the coconut oil by itself? I have it in coffee and I have eaten it off the spoon. I wonder if a spoonful of that good fat would curb your hunger? I know it does for me? If you couldn't stomach that, straight oil, perhaps a tablespoon of peanut butter? I know for me a portion of 'fat' cures my hunger and keeps me going longer. Just something to think about. I have even 'drank' a tablespoon of olive oil - not as pleasant as the coconut oil but gained the same benefit. I chased the oil down with balsamic vinegar - yum :)

Issy, I specifically used the coconut oil in that last scrambled egg I had just because I was trying to add some extra fat to help with the hunger. And, yes, I've eaten it right off the spoon....not as bad as it sounds, right? Anyway, I CANNOT use PB or I'll get into trouble with it BIG time! LOL! I just LOVE PB way too much, and if I get started, I can down an entire days' worth of calories of it....and then some. Coconut oil is much safer!
