Brissetlara's Journal, 02 August 2019

Eh, I will just vent. No one has to read this, I just want to make sure I write this down for my future self ...
but if you do thank you! I do enjoy reading others' journals.
I'm not sure what to vent about because I have so much crossing my mind but I still feel like typing (currently on a desktop) so yea,
maybe I want to complain about where I have taken my life? but I might be to afraid to actually admit what I've done with it.
So much on my mind.. for starters our financial situation has taken a huge punch! my husband used to work 20hrs overtime a pay period and now they took that away. I work as well, I make $16 an hour as a secretary for a luxurious hotel :/.. They cant give me more because my title is "clerk" and that's about as much as they make so I am where I should be, yet my workload is more of a executive assistant :( ... I've been here 6 years,
(I think I've gotten too comfortable)I became a conformist, I wasn't. I'm not sure what happened. Anyway, I have looked for other jobs but it hasn't been easy, I can't take time off for interviews :/ it would hurt my paycheck. This month we had to get a loan to pay off our $1700 mortgage.
I know there is so much I want to do but I don't know where or even how to begin :/ I feel scared! I'm only 30yrs old and I have a huge mental block and it is only fear :/. I was thinking of selling pastries that I make for home but I am so terrified of that. I've also had a dream of having my own clothing company I even have name! I've had this dream for 13years now :/ ... I've never event tried anything except a lot of entries on my "dreams" notebook .. I just don't know where to start on anything! :/
I used to be so driven and so positive, I cant find that person anymore and I think is all because of how I feel working here. I feel so unappreciated and so blah! I know if I wasn't here I might feel more encourage to follow my dreams but I cant leave! :/ ugh... I will keep looking for a will and a way to control my fears and follow my heart :/

I wanted to sell hair bows, jewelry and crafts. I made them for my kids so why not make double and sell the rest right? A year of booth rentals and buying set up stuff and I’m still $1000 in the hole. Was it worth it? Yes! Now I still have lots of bows, ribbon and jewelry supplies so can make the kids whatever they want. I use the tables for family dinners and in the craft room. I think I’m down about $50 total for booths cause the last couple bombed for everyone. It sounds like a lot but I still have the stuff and it’ll get used over time. My kids are starting to use some now.

Another vendor makes food. She makes the BEST cinnamon rolls but they are $5 each. Huge ones! $5 was okay because they were so good but when she went to $8 I decided it was too high for me to get all the time. Be careful on pricing and know your market. She started baking for friends. Simple things like bread and rolls for the holidays. You can say ‘if you don’t have time I’ll gladly make you tools for your Christmas and you can pick them up a couple days before. How does $2 a dozen sound? (Or whatever 2x your cost is; 3x can work on some things but if they can buy at the store much cheaper then they will). Pies and cakes work too. Same for breakfast items like casseroles or pastries.

She had to get an LLC when she started doing craft booths. She also had to rent a bigger kitchen and I think have an inspection. No animals can be in the house. You’d have to check laws and regs in your area but my point is that you CAN do it! Same for the clothing. Just start with friends and family. “You need a prom dress altered? I can do that and it would probably cost you half what the tailor charges. How does that sound?” You can ask around to see if anyone would be interested in other handmade clothing. Have some drawings ready or even something made or pinned up that people can come look at. You can have a folder on your phone with pictures of people in your handmade items. Believe in yourself! Start slow and you can do it!

That’s life. You probably did get to comfortable banking on your husbands overtime and you make $16. Readjust everything from spending and your WOE. My hubby makes bank as a foreman especially on weekends but when you have bills you can’t rely on weekends. I just had 8 weeks w/o pay and we still were taking care of one of our nieces. I earned a degree 19 years ago as an MA. Be thankful you make $16 an hour.

Etsy has been amazing for me. It allows me to have a side gig and make a few extra bucks here and there. The cost to list is minimal so if you wanted to start your clothing business with just one piece, you could. Start small and add as you go. You can absolutely do it!

never to late to drop it all and start over! I heard a seminar once that the more you express your dreams and needs to people the more help you will find, keep your goals, dreams in the forefront of your mind it's achievable.

Hey there! I’m fairly new to fat secret but so far I’ve enjoyed reading everyone’s posts. I was really moved by your post because a couple of years ago I was in the same place with my job. I worked there for ten years and was making $16 an hour. That was max pay and I knew I wanted to make more money but was too scared to leave (which is why I stayed for so long). I returned to school last year and although it’s been tough, it was worth. Anyways, I just wanted to encourage you to hang in there!

What state are you in? I have been offered a few jobs but they’re here in Az minimum wage has gone up here so there’s definitely jobs like banks that will start ya off at $18 + 10% if your bilingual or if you work night shift weekends etc it’s an additional 10% each.

As an ex Head of Human Resources, surprised to read your rate of pay. The minimum wage in Australia is $19.49 per hour, so how are they able to pay you less than this?
