Well this is a fine kettle of fish....

Today is THE day to get the lawn done in advance of our vacation and it is pouring down rain! I adjusted my dog-walking to 1.5 miles only, believing that I'd be doing about 2 hours of yardwork. That turned out to be about 20 minutes before the skies let loose. I knew the rain was coming, but the lawn was too wet earlier this morning to do it, so I waited. Guess I waited too long.

As I've been typing, we're down to fine sprinkles, but with all the rain that came down, it will probably be a few hours before I could go out there again....and that assumes no more rain, which looks unlikely by radar.

This vacation will be a great learning experience for me on this WOE. I've gone on 3- to 5-day trips and come back either a bit down in weight or the same. This is a longer trip and we're not taking pre-made breakfast and lunches, mostly because we don't need to for this trip. On our other trips, we were in areas not conducive to finding on-plan meals that didn't cost an arm and a leg!! So, we opted to bring along our own breakfast and lunch and just do dinner out. But for this trip, we "should" be able to find what we need along the way. We shall see....

I AM taking along Atkins bars, cheese sticks, and sunflower kernels. These were the mainstays of my lunches on previous trips, so they will work just fine if a meal is getting too delayed.

We're going to a lot of places from our growing-up and college days. Nearly all of them have various foods associated with them, so that's where my "learning experience" comes into play. On previous visits, we'd go back and eat just about every favorite food from each place, as if those foods were the keys to those past experiences. Now, however, I need to be able to revisit old haunts and enjoy them without having to experience those specifc foods. Some of the foods are Atkins-friendly, but a whole lot are not!!!

If Atkins, or low-carb, is truly a permanent WOE/WOL for me, then I need to make some of these changes. Sure, there will be an off-plan food that I'm planning on eating on one day, and that kind of situation will occur from time to time as I go forward in the future. But, overall, I can't let a vacation, or any other type of non-regular occasion, push me off of the type of eating I know is best for me. If for no other reason than consistently eating non-low-carb will make me feel AWFUL!!!

And, you know what? I still talk about on-plan or off-plan, but there's really no "plan" anymore....this is my new "normal" way of eating....either something works for me, or it doesn't. Before I began this journey, there would be foods that I didn't like...foods that I'd prefer not to eat. It's exactly the same now, except that the foods I'm not going to eat are the higher carb ones.

Yes, this will be a very interesting experience....
