I couldn't unbutton the jeans. I thought I would be trapped forever. How did this happen?
A month ago I tried on a pair of old Guess jeans, and I couldn't even get them over my hips. They went back into the box in the closet of the guest room.
Whether on a whim or wishful thinking, I don't know, but yesterday I tried them on again. Barely up over my hips, I took a deep breath and sucked in my stomach and buttoned them. Now for the zipper. Holding in my tummy even more, inch by inch the zipper was zipped. The end result was NOT pretty and neither was the bluish hue to my face.
Then I tried to unzip them. To my horror, I couldn't unbutton them no matter what I did. How embarrassing to have to call your hubby to help you escape from the grasp of man-eating clothes!
A few hours later (and now no longer blue in the face), I went through my closet to get ready to go to a family gathering (where food always abounds in excessive quantities and portion control is a must), guess what was behind Door Number 2. Guess jeans! The music from Jaws would have made the scene complete.
Wait. These had a thin layer of dust. What was this? I pulled them out and realized these were my old jeans. Once again, whether on a whim or wishful thinking, I still don't know, I thought I'd try them on. (You'd think one humiliating lesson a day would suffice, huh?) I ended up wearing them to the party.
My daughter called me this morning, and I shared my harrowing experience with her. I thought I had raised her right and at the very least she would commiserate. But, no, not even a glimmer. Instead, she broke out in peals of laughter.
When she was finally able to catch her breath, she said, "Silly mom, the box in the guest room closet? Really? THOSE Guess jeans used to be mine!"
Lesson learned? Beware of unidentified clothing... and most importantly, run if you hear the theme music from Jaws.
