Bleh! I've been trying to lose weight and am failing miserably. I eat healthy, exercise daily, but I'm still failing to lose weight! I can say that I've gained a significant amount of muscle, but that somehow feels like an excuse... I know what the problem is... I spend far too much of the day inactive, even if I exercise rigorously for an hour a day, too much of the day is still sitting on my butt. Let's see if I can fix it in time for Halloween!!

Are you exercising an hour a day? Surely that is enough, especially if you are over 60 years old. I think we are doing well to exercise and show control over our food choices. Don't beat yourself up or set unrealistic goals.

You only build muscle while in a calorie surplus and you only lose weight when in a calorie deficit. It is very uncommon to have a calorie deficit (lose weight) and build muscle. The main goal is to lose weight and maintain muscle. Also, more important than your activity level is your diet. If you are eating too little or too much it will hinder your progress. I would focus on accurately monitoring your calorie intake and making sure that it is where you want it for your goals. I say this because an hour of exercise per day is enough.

Thank you to both of you! I'm not over 60 (not sure where that came up) I'm 27. I mostly swim for exercise and do sword work (I'm a stunt performer). Is it possible to gain weight by eating at wrong times? Even if I'm eating healthy?

It could be possible that you are not eating enough calories. I didn't see your food listed so that is just a guess. I have read lots of different posts about keeping calories at 1200 as a minimum and I've also read it doesn't really matter when you are eating them as long as you are staying active. I'm not an expert and am still learning, but thought I would share with you things I have read on FS. Good luck!
