Christinemeowk's Journal, 10 April 2016

Ugg, why is there no way to calculate how many calories to consume to lose more than 1lb a week? I'm not trying to go insanely hard, but I'm not trying to snail my way through either. The calories set for me seem way too high to be helpful in my journey.

Diet Calendar Entry for 10 April 2016:
3319 kcal Activities & Exercise: Washing Dishes - 15 minutes, Resting - 18 hours and 45 minutes, Sleeping - 5 hours. more...

The calories on Fat Secret tend to be high. If you are comfortable going lower calorie, then cut them down a little and see what happens.

Another one I like is calculator.net. I like comparing a couple simple ones just to make sure they're in the same range. Good luck!

If your averaging a lb. a week. That's perfect, if intend to keep it off. Steady wins the race. When you reach your goal then worry. Finding the right amount of calories to consume. Consuming enough calories to stay at goal is difficult!

best quote i've heard by someone "you didn't gain weight quickly, you gained it over time. you need to lose weight over time, not quickly". you want to average about 1 - 1.5 lbs loss per week for it to stick IMO. also look into macro counting, it's what helped me a lot. a macro is protein, carb and fat. each has a value of calorie. 1g protein = 4 cals, 1g carb = 4 cals and 1g fat = 9 cals. when counting my macros, i noticed i wasn't eating enough protein, most of my foods were high in carbs or fats. i also noticed, i wasn't eating enough sometimes. that's what made me gain the weight. if you feed your body with the right ratio of proteins, carbs and fats consistently, you will lose weight steadily.

You will lose a pound a week for every 500 calories you cut or burn per day as 500 calories/day times 7 days/week equals 3500 calories/week which is the number of calories in a pound of fat.

Lolol I actually did gain very quickly and 1lb a week isn't gonna cut it. I'll be damned if I'm gonna sit on my ass and take 110 weeks to reach my goal. I've been doing Atkins since February 19th and I've already lost a little over 16 lbs. I know exactly what I need to do to get it done. It's the calorie calculator on this site that I have an issue with. I just think it would be nice if I could make it match what I'm doing on the atkins page. Here it's telling me to do 2030 a day. That would require me to force myself to eat when not hungry, and that's what got me in this mess to begin with. I'm trying to listen to my body for once ya know?

By your comment, it looks like you found your calories. Don't worry to much about macro ratios. You're doing Atkins, that'll work fine. You will likely need to recalculate calories needed to maintain losses in about 30 pounds. It would be worth doing. I agree for most people a loss of 1 to 1.5 is optimal. The heavier you are though, the quicker you can lose. It's not a race. Doing it at a 1 to 1.5 rate will teach you what good meals and amounts of food look like.

Ohhh I'm pretty heavy alright. I hit my heaviest point ever in my life in February. When I started on Atkins mid February I weighed 306 pounds! 😝 Even on this six foot tall frame that's just unacceptable. Between my birthday and Feb I went from 226 to 306. Years of going back and forth with an eating disorder had wrecked my metabolism and starting around October many snack laden movie marathons happened. If I gained about 4 a week I don't see anything wrong with dropping 2-2.5 a week eating right and exercising. Sorry for the rambles and tmi. Lol

FatSecret will set your calories too high but you can go in and lower it under RDI - I think the tools setting.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to set it lower. The most it allows is for 1lb a week weight loss goal and that puts me at 2300. Blecchh 😝 looks like I may have to just ignore it.

Go to your food diary page (on the website food diary page, not sure about various app versions) and click on the "Set your Recommended Daily Intake" link at the bottom of the page, under your Calorie Breakdown pie chart. You can enter a different RDI calorie number yourself.

It's not giving me the option. :/

After it calculates you'll go to a second page to confirm and I think that's where you can set it. The command is toward the bottom.

Yussss got it! The option didn't show until I recalculated again. Thanks, woman!
