maeday42's Journal, 07 July 2020

Today they took it all from me. Finished the 3 day glucose monitor and the only thing they see that is raising my sugars is my Keto baking. Doc said NO BAKING for the rest of the month (no Rebel icecream either) to see if my sugars level off. 😥😥 So, can't have real cookies and cake, found Keto alternatives I can live with and now I might not be able to have those anymore. Most of the diabetics I know don't struggle like I do (including my little brother- he's 56), they eat what they want and take a shot. I don't know what makes me do it, but I just don't want diabetes to win. Diabetes claimed my Dad when he was 62 and it's over 30 years and I still miss him today. I've been fighting my diabetes for 15 years. In that time I've lost over 100 lbs and went from 80 units of insulin shots a day to none. I've denied myself all kinds of alcohol and sweet treats during that time. I'm tired of fighting, I often think about giving in and just doing what everyone else seems to do. What's the point in all my struggles if I end up back on shots? I know I'm whining, but that's just how I feel today. Defeated.

So sorry but it will help to lose more weight. Look at what you will gain and not what you are losing. I do not have diabetes but I am keto. I would double check that I measure every thing correctly. I would look for hidden sugars on labels. And those are there. I would avoid certain sweeteners for sure. I like splenda (unpopular now) because for me it does not raise blood sugar at all unlike some other ones. I would avoid snacking and maybe think about time restricted eating. You got this!!!!

Don't give up. My son was diagnosed at the age of 15 in the worst way. He came up to me to say goodnight and to me his breath smelled like rubbing alcohol. I called my daughter who is an LNA, she told me to bring him to the ER immediately. I did. He was in the late stages of ketoacidosis. I could have lost him if I couldn't smell it. So don't give up, keep trying you're very lucky not to have the shots and you're doing a great job!

Please don’t give up! Have you ever eaten in the very best way you can for a solid 6 months? Take not only your Drs advice but research for yourself, then take those anti-diabetic ways of eating and follow them to the letter! Don’t let diabetes win! This is not about finding a way of eating one can “live with!”?? This is about kicking the ass of a disease that is trying to shorten your life and kill you! Strong words yes. Please know this is said in the most supportive way! ✌️✌️

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAwgdX5VxGc My husband reversed his following a low carb diet and Dr. Jason Fungs videos. Dietdoctor.com is a good website. It is possible. Many are doing it. Dr. Ken Berry and Dr. Eric Berg are two other good ones. I understand your fustration. We followed our VA physicians advice for years until I finally started doing some digging and ran acrosse the above follks. Life for my husband is quite different today. An a1c of 4.5 and a weight loss of 189 pounds in 18 months. The VA can't call him a FAILURE any longer. Your best advocate is YOU. Challenge your physician, better yet find another one!

Keep going!! Don’t give up! That’s AMAZING that you got yourself off of insulin. Your insides are thanking you!!! I know it sucks to feel like the changes you’ve made aren’t working (but they are! You’re the proof, you got yourself off of 80U of insulin). Have faith that by sticking with it you’ll be able to live a healthier and more full life! (P.S. I’m a physician and love hearing people who use the power of food to take control of their own health. It’s so inspiring!)
