Now that I'm well into weight loss mode, I am itchy ALL OVER. I know from my history that I itch during weight loss, and that the itch happens wherever I am losing inches / fat that day.

Well, it's everywhere! It feels like I need a bath cuz I'm itchy in so many places at the same time.

I know that there are different creams, ointments, oils, etc. to help with this, but I have another question for you all: DO YOU THINK IT'S BAD TO SCRATCH?

I heard that scratching a weight loss itch just increases the likelihood of stretch marks. But maybe this is merely a wives tale?

Do you know anything about this subject?

I have no idea but it can't hurt to hold a cold damp washcloth on your skin, maybe spritz with water and pat dry? Good luck.

I suspect the itchiness has more to do with liver function than actual weight loss. Have you consulted your physician? And, no I don't think scratching causes stretch marks...being overweight to the point that your skin breaks down/apart causes stretch marks.

Anti-histamines will help you feel better. If you have cut many of the carbs it happens. You can also google, and make sure you are not eating foods that can cause histamine attacks chocolate, fish, etc. There are some foods that higher in histamines. Good luck! https://www.healthline.com/health/low-histamine-diet

I've never heard of this... I'd be inclined to have lab levels checked.

maybe the body wash your using.. I shower after every workout instantly and I noticed with some body washes I get itchy from time to time but only last like 15 minutes and the itchy skin is gone.... or possibly the detergent you use to wash towels ... would be some things to look into

Are you staying hydrated? In these dry months, it's easy for skin to become dry and itchy.

I agree with FullaBella and To145.

I've never heard that, about itching during weight loss. Possibly your skin's reaction to less subcutaneous fat? Often people who lose weight feel cold a lot because of less subcu fat. Can't imagine that scratching would cause stretch marks, but definitely use a lotion & try to avoid lots of scratching. It always seems to make me itch WORSE, lol!

A cold, damp washcloth. Huh. I would have never thought of that. Thank you, abbadabba!

Touche, To145. And thanks for pointing that out, about the liver. I did have liver function failure when I was at my biggest. I wonder if I'm just starting to feel it now that I'm fasting and whatnot. I'll check in with the doc. Thanks for the tip.

Benadryl. Oh, no. I can't do that stuff. It's too hard. Marked me drowsy for days.

healthline.com/health/low-histimine-diet. Aw, it looks like that page is under the weather, Ginsin.

Me too, Steven! If it's due to all this fat shredding off, 😁 Lololol. But no, seriously, the itching does gotta stop at some point.

FullaBella. Yes, and I do get my labs checked. I have another one back this week, actually. Wonder if that'll give me a hint. 🤞🏼

LP, I wonder where you are that it's dry right now. Anyway. 😁 I think I am, but I should carry around water again. Thanks!

Gotcha. Thanks, Taurelfan. Yeah, when I do start it's sort difficult to stop. 😊

It may be dry skin, with this cold weather I am itchy sometimes too.
