My initial plan was to eat 900 calories and workout every day. When I slipped up, I decided to take it slow. I know alternate between high- and low-carb days while keeping it below 1700 calories. I stop eating about 3 hrs or more before bed and occasionally workout. (which means if I see I gained weight, I'll work out that day. It is very cold lately.)
(I am currently not on a diet, just eating below 1700 cal.)
