02 August 2012

Day #2 - Talk about starting off my month of processed carb free on the wrong foot! I COMPLETELY forgot about two sets of plans I had made with coworkers last week. 1 - Happy hour last night. 2 - Lunch out to Shake Shack for the first time.

1 - Happy Hour last night
I tried my hardest and had NO beer!! YAY! I stuck to wine and vodka drinks. Wound up staying way past 'happy hour' and was there for a few hours. Had a decent amount to drink, which wound up being my 'dinner' which is no good. I'm paying for it this morning. I'm not hungover per say, but just tired and feeling a little dehydrated. Didn't get home until about 10pm and ate about half a bag of baby carrots to fill me up.

2 - Shake Shack lunch today
I have been dying to try this new burger joint in Philly. It's originally based out of NYC and supposedly has some of the best burgers and shakes you've ever tasted. My coworkers and I made these plans about 2 weeks ago, and it unfortunately lands on day #2 of my processed carb-free month. I'm going to try to eat the burger without the bun. But, I'm going to succumb and try the strawberry milkshake. I literally have been dreaming about this shake for the last 2 months since Shake Shack opened.

Crossfit tonight! Looks like a tough workout... Maybe I'll burn off some of this shake tonight.

I'm sorry, carb gods. I promise I'll do better tomorrow!

01 August 2012

Today is Day #1 of my month of no more refined/processed carbs lifestyle change! For the entire month of August, I vow try my hardest to eliminate the following from my diet:

Breads
Grains
Pasta
Potatoes -- see ya hash browns and frenchf ries :(
Processed sugars
Artificial Sweeteners

This will not be a 100% elimination of carbohydrates from my diet. I will still eat foods that naturally have carbs in them, such as yogurt, fruit, legumes, etc. I'm trying to eliminate anything that is wheat or grain based. I've noticed then when I have a large meal that is mostly based on carbs, (pasta, a bagel for breakfast) they make me very sluggish for the next few hours, so I'm hoping this will help! Also, hopefully it'll help me shed these last few pounds.

This also means NO BEER :( If I do go out, I will try to have cider (which is actually delicious) or mixed drinks. I can't not let myself have some wine on occasion though. They're 'natural' sugars, right?? Hah.

I did a large shopping trip yesterday which consisted of 100% refined carb free shopping! I was very proud of myself. Lots of lean protein and fruits and veggies. I even took a picture of my shopping cart because I was so happy.

People always say it takes 3 weeks to make a change into something permanent, right? Well, here's to one whole month of trying something new!

PS we kicked ass in volleyball last night. We're now 12-0 and in 1st place :)

31 July 2012

Alright... Starting to feel a bit better :)

I'll start off with a California recap first --
Huntington Beach is GORGEOUS. It has absolutely perfect weather (72-75 and sunny every day, with zero humidity). Talk about an active community! Everyone there is outside all day every day. If you want to lose some weight and need some motivation, this is definitely the place to go.
The BF had work on Wed/Fri, so I just hung out on my own and went to the beach. I managed to get a preeeeetty nice sunburn on the backs of my legs on Friday since I forgot to put sunscreen there. Now I'm paying for it.
Thursday was his 25th birthday, so we went to the Temecula area and did a wine tasting trolley. This adorable old school San Francisco trolley took us around to 4 different wineries where we got to taste 5-6 wines each. We had an absolute blast.
We also found him an apartment! It's perfect. 1 bedroom, new kitchen/bath, living room, dining room, ONE MILE FROM THE BEACH, and two miles from work. For his birthday I got him a new bike, so hopefully he'll be using that to its full potential!
Sunday was the sad day. (I'm already getting upset writing this) The goodbye at the airport was the hardest thing we've done so far. We've been together 2 years, and I had never seen him cry before until now. I think that was the hardest part. I cried like a little baby the entire five hour flight home, hence my horrible mood yesterday morning.

Yesterday was actually a pretty good day, despite the fact that I was seriously down in the dumps when I first woke up. Overslept by 45 minutes, and got to work an hour later than I wanted to. BUT once I got to work, things started looking up. Caught up on all my emails I missed from last week, had my yearly review with my boss (she says I'm doing fantastic, wants to give me more work to do, AND I'm getting a bonus!)

I did a little searching on flights to California, and booked my first flight to go visit for Columbus Day weekend! I booked it so early because it's only $280 for round trip non-stop from Philly to LA!!! I was SO happy. We were both under the impression that flights were about $500. Looks like my nice little work bonus will cover a few flights out there :) Plus, he'll be back for Labor Day/my birthday which is now only 30 days away!

I had an awesome workout at crossfit yesterday. First time there in almost a week and a half and it was awesome. I got a new PR for my power cleans - 105#. SO HAPPY!

BIG volleyball game tonight! We're currently undefeated (9-0) and playing the team we lost to in the playoffs last season.. REDEMPTION!!!

Happy Tuesday, buddies!
