Recovering from March 11th shoulder surgery; torn rotator and ruptured bicep tendon. Optimistic that after recovery I can resume weight lifting. I injured myself 12 months ago which reduced my lifting schedule. Now, with the new and improved shoulder, I can active my goal to lose fat and gain lean muscle. A few months of down-time has introduced me to other ways to fitness. One step back, two steps forward.

While surfing my favorite site, I came back to the site and noticed I lost 30 lbs since my last visit to Fatsecret in 2014. This is a great site. I only changed to MyFitnessPal because several friends were using it.
Over the past 2.5 years, I began eating "Clean" and working out 3 times a week. During this process, there have been peaks and valleys, and I never gave up on myself. My biggest valley occurred following the sudden death of my wife 11 years ago. After 23 years, just prior to her death, I promised that I would take care of her babies, which included taking on a new role as "Mr. Mom" to my 6 and 9 years old children - best job in the world (Not easiest but very rewarding).
When she passed, I left my job of 15 years to concentrate on my children. I've always been active but I hit the bottom of all bottoms and gained 35 lbs. Then, just over 3 years ago, I knew I had to improve my health. I began going to the gym to ride an exercise bike, then weights, more weights and after learning how to eat right my body began to change. It took a year to see the results and I regained my confidence and climbed out of the valley to new heights.
Today, I'm on a new high and stay away from processed foods, sugar and continue to challenge myself through weight lifting (It's become therapy for my sole). In the near future, I'd like to travel and get involved with Spartan racing, resume my martial arts quest and begin a long-term relationship.
I owe my success to perseverance and growing my relationship with the Lord.
In the next few months, my daughter is going away to school and I'll be an empty nester. As the new chapter in my life unfolds, working out and eating clean will continue to be a top priority. The new chapter is going to allow me to live my dreams. I'm financially and emotionally stable, finally, and look forward to the future.
To all who are feeling overwhelmed with life changes, try something different and don't give up on yourself. We all need each other to get through this life. We need help to take off the masks we hide behind, and get the strength to reboot our lives free from the past and learn new healthy habits. I'm thankful I didn't give up before the miracle. I made it through some difficult times and so can you. Please, don't give up on yourself.
