How to be social on a diet
Thank you so much for all of your advice! It's so great having a place where everyone is so supportive!

leahl: Your advice about being a "slave" to my diet is so true. I shouldn't let the healthy menu choices make me feel guilty, especially if I am making caloric allowances other places.

hunny3080 & k8yk & sheripickle : Thanks for the great advice! Eating a salad first is a great idea. I think if I were more full, maybe I wouldn't overindulge later at night.

rjenkins22: I'm not ready for "off days" yet either because I am trying to lose weight for a quickly-approaching vacation. However, I can definitely see the benefit of them & will take full advantage after my vacation. In the mean time, your recommendation to have a small 300-500 snack is a great idea & something I could certainly allow for.

anapdc: I sometimes feel as if I am focusing too much on food, too. When this happens, I try to be very aware of it & think about how much more to life there is than food & diets. Although it's important to me to lose weight and be healthy, I know that I don't want it to be my sole focus. Whenever I start to think like this, I try to be conscious of it, stop myself & think about other things.

russell97: Thank you for reminding me that one day won't ruin everything. This will really help me to cheat where I can without losing sight of my goals by giving up.

rnbwgrl: I have heard that water with lemon is great at staving off hunger. I haven't tried it yet, but I definitely will next time I eat out. It's a great idea to put half of your food in a to go box before you begin to eat--especially since I know a certain hungry male in my life who would appreciate the leftovers Smile

tonjap: You are so right about FS. It is great to have so many supportive and positive people who have the same goals--to be healthy and happy.

Thanks everyone for your responses!

How to be social on a diet
I need some advice. When I am interested in dieting, I am very dedicated and can put mind over matter and stick to eating healthy foods once I get started. However, I find that the littlest thing outside of what I plan to eat triggers me to give up & eat bad food. For example, I started dieting last Friday and have been sticking to it very very well. However, last night I went on a date and my date asked to share an appetizer. There is no healthy appetizer. I decided to say yes and just eat a small portion of it (I had eaten well during the day so I knew that as long as I didn't overindulge in the appetizer that I would still be fine.) However, once I got home, I completely broke my diet and ate several things I shouldn't have. I also find myself turning down offers to go out with coworkers to eat lunch because I know it will cause me to fall off the wagon unless I eat my pre-planned meal I have at home. I know what triggers me to fall off the wagon, but unfortunately it also causes me to eat alone. Do any of you have trouble balancing social situations and diets? I know there are healthy options at restaurants and I enjoy ordering them. However, even if I order a salad with no dressing, I still feel like it's more fattening than my home-cooked food and mentally, I give up. Any advice? Anyone in a similar situation?

So hard

You just have to start and it takes me two weeks not to have hunger cravings after two weeks it gets easier if you stick to your diet.

That's exactly how I am. It takes me a good week or two of strong willpower and then the diet gets easier. This is day one..we'll see how well I can stick to it for the next 14 days..Wish me luck

skinny diet buddies
I read this post and I couldn't believe there were so many people feeling the same way I do. I am 5'3" and have always been petite but recently I have put on 10-15 lbs that I'm desperate to lose by mid summer. The shorter you are, the more obvious the weight. I love this post and I definitely need some buddies to help me stick to a good diet and reach my goal. I joined the challenge "Lose 11lbs in May" in hopes of reaching my goal. Anyone interested in joining with me?

I thought there would be a lot of groups with girls going through similar situations, but there aren't any. I'd love to start a group of 20-something's looking to lose 10-15 lbs. I really need support to lose the weight and I'd love to support others too. Anyone interested in joining a group?
