This morning I joined a Zumba class. I did have reservations at first as the instructor could hardly walk! It was great fun and I really enjoyed it. Later when chatting to other ladies, I discovered the tutor to be really good, except she has inflamed knee ligaments at the moment. She did her best, but she couldn't do the footwork, luckily the class was well versed in the moves so I copied them.
Another bonus was the venue as it has a great gym, I wouldn't have found it if I hadn't been told about Zumba on this forum. John's coming with me next week, I'll have my class and he will be on the machines.

Had a good old girlie shop with two friends this morning. Found a really good shop selling second hand clothes, the owner is quite particular so the clothes she had in stock looked really good. I bought a lovely jacket for 8 euros (say 10$). It is a good label (Next) and can be worn with many things. Really pleased, especially as it didn't break the bank! It is now in the washer as I type. Now I know where to recycle my BIG clothes.
The other thing I bought Paula was Metamucil - I really didn't think I could get it here in Spain. Problem is though it is orange flavoured and I'm worried about carbs. The box says one dose has 1.86g of Maltodextrin http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maltodextrin. I'll log in in my diet calendar.

I am really missing the whole grains in the bread I used to eat - this used to be only thing to quicken up my sluggish digestive track! Vegetable and fruit fibre have never seemed to work for me.
So from today I've ground some flax seeds and I'm going to have one tablespoon a day which should help. I've just had a spoonful in a glass of warm water and litterally just threw it down my throut. It sounds awful, but it really wasn't that bad if it works. So now I am trying to find creative ways to hide the fibre in my food.
I know there are some lovely sounding recipes for mims, but my husband is fairly adamant that we should keep away from anything that sounds like 'bread', he's likening it to having a placebo cigarette. I'm not sure what to think about that at the minute.
Have now got a challenge!

I'm boring everyone I meet. I am deep into the book 'Hidden Delusion' and I'm boring all my friends with bits of it that I've read. The book is really hard going, it's written in clinical laboratory speak, but I'm trying to absorb as much as I can.
I am really interested as to why low-fat/high-carb dietians have got things so wrong for such a long time and why Atkins works. I know the Atkins book tells us, but somehow reading information from another source stamps Atkins with authority.
Eminent scientist and professors have been arguing for years and years about what is the correct diet for us. Despite the world spending billions of $s on proving that low fat diet is the healthiest (US have spent over $1 billion) a low fat diet cannot be proved to be the healthiest diet. (We've known about the low fat diet for decades, but populations are still getting bigger).
For fear of boring everyone to sleep... I've discovered there was a clinical trial regarding sodium, and putting it simply, it was found that carbohydrates control the sodium in our body through insulin. Obviously too much sodium causes our body to hold water, so in turn our blood pressure goes up. Cut the carbs and the sodium content stores in our bodies reduce and so does water retention and therefore our blood pressure drops (I know mine has!). So for people with heart problems, it's not the fat that is the problem, it is the carbs.
Sorry, but I just need to share these snippets of information with you, I am so fascinated.
In some ways it is good that I haven't lost as much weight as I'd like, because this has driven me to delve into areas I just wouldn't have bothered going.
Well done if you read this to the end......lol
