I'm hypothyroid and for the last year and a half I've been trying to lose weight with a low calorie diet, carido and weight training program. I've lost 5 pounds.
In the last 6 days of being on the Atkins Induction phase, I've lost almost 4. Five pounds in a Year and a half, 4 in 6 days!! Reminds me of the definition of insanity.
I know that this weight is water. But that is okay. I could not seem to lose the water doing it the other way. So this is a plus. I'm reading Gary Taubes two books as well as the new Atkins book and so far it makes alot of sense. I wish I had made this change sooner. Nutrition is far more complex than calories/calories out, which is what I've always thought. And I'm finding out through alot of trial and error that it is not. I think if it were not for the exercise I have been doing that these low calorie, low fat, high carb diets would have caused me some serious health problems (i.e., metabolic disorder and possibly heart disease).
I might have to say goodbye to pastas and breads and the like, but I'm pretty sure that I'll be leaner and healthier as a result. And hopefully be an example to others that struggle with their thyroid.
