22 August 2023

So it's been a few days of, I wouldn't say dieting so much as just being more mindful & less whatever I felt like eating, and I'm predictably down about 2 lbs or so. Nice start, but hoping to take off 2 or 3 more before the weekend. But then there's exercise, which I have a problem with since I injured my foot a few weeks ago. I believe I stepped on a rock and rolled it inward, and it hurts in the same area as an older injury. Not good, probably strained a tendon or something. This means no walking, and maybe even no shopping LOL, since I was limping after 30 minutes. So I rather stupidly bought a fold-up stationary bike. My hubby was like, but you work at a gym so why? Well, I can park that sucker in front of the TV while peddaling & I don't have to drive anywhere, LOL! I'd been taping the injured area, which hasn't done much good, so I guess I'm back in tennis shoes despite the heat. And I don't know about you, but here in Oklahoma it's HOT!😓😒😒 Stay cool, everyone & drink your water!

Well I'm back today. Sadly, my brother died on Aug. 3rd, and during those last 2 weeks of hospice until now I just didn't care about diet or exercise. Naturally I gained back the 5 lbs I lost back in July. We had a nice graveside memorial for him last Friday, and now I think I'm finally ready to get back to diet and exercise. I keep saying if you stop walking you start dying, and that's pretty much what happened to Henry. He became bedridden around 6 years ago, even though he was 3 years younger than me. It's important to stay strong and healthy, so I'm going to get back into it.

I finished the Foundations course for Silver Sneakers last month, and since have completed a course on the Classics instructor training. I feel like I've got a ways to go, however, starting with attending a few Classic classes to get a feel for them, then putting together a routine that I can teach to others. But I also got this crazy idea about training to be an EKG tech. I would dearly love to work in cardiac rehab somewhere, somehow, so that is my next training class. I've completed the 1st part of a 5-part training. I've also applied for some exercise specialist positions, which sadly I didn't get, but I must keep going. I want to work more directly with people in a health/fitness capacity, and not just the Member Service. But in the meantime, my hubby & I are going to Hawaii in 2 weeks - this was planned before Henry went into hospice - and vanity dictates that I try to drop a few lbs before I go. So, here we go....

Haven't posted for awhile because life has been less than happy. My brother's health not only did NOT improve, but after some painful discussions he's gone into hospice. My sister came to town & stayed for awhile, which was helpful, and my nephew also drove up to spend some time with his uncle. Anyway, life has calmed down a bit today at least. This whole episode is reminding me why I got a 2nd degree in exercise science and why I wanted to teach group fitness or something along those lines. Yeah, I gripe about my weight but it's really not that bad, in fact surprisingly I've been able to maintain the 5 lb loss from my last attempt. Would still like to lose another 10, but that's just so normal. My overall health is good, and I'd like to keep it that way. Mindful eating, regular exercise & just being more active overall, that's what I want to do. And maybe help others do the same, that would be the cherry on top! Hope everyone has a great weekend, get out and enjoy it!

03 July 2023

Well I managed to make it halfway through the 75Soft Challenge before it all fell apart. This time was triggered by my brother's unfortunate latest health trouble, which I don't want to go into. Anyway, I'm trying to restart the process, and I'm trying to decide if I'll pick up where I left off or start it over in a week or 2. Right now, with grocery prices so high, I've experimented with some 5 meals for $5 videos on YouTube, so the next week or so are pretty much planned out. Why is it that diet meals are more expensive, and does it have to be that way??? Perhaps I should look into this....

Anyway, I'm about to go lift some weights before lunch. Hope everyone had a nice weekend, and if you took today off that's a 4-day weekend, woo hoo! I had to work Saturday & also today, but at least I'm off tomorrow. Happy 4th, everyone!

19 June 2023

I've seen some modest improvements over the past 4 weeks. 3/4" off my waist & chest, and 1/4" off the hips & thighs. I've also lost about 5 1/2 lbs. This weekend I managed to hold the weekend weight gain to 1/2 lb, likely due to a double workout on Friday & Sunday. I did weights Friday morning & swam in the afternoon, then yesterday there was a combination of a 30 minute walk & about 1 hr kayaking! My hubby & I bought a season pass for the kayaking, so now I need to go at least once a week. We'll be going to Hawaii over the Labor Day weekend, & I'm hoping to do some ocean kayaking while there. Maybe I'll even try the stand-up paddleboard! Hopefully my hubby will go kayaking more often, he definitely needs to get his exercise. He's off work today for Juneteenth, hope anyone else who's off has a great day!
