Took a really long time to get here and as everyone knows who has gone through this, getting here is only 2/3rds of the solution. Its that last 3rd that is most important (Seinfeld reference) which is staying here at this new weight. How I got here is less relevant because each person is really unique in there reason why except for the obvious fact that we ate to much. Here was the solution I found that worked for me. The First issue was to understand food and my issue with it, for this I saw a fantastic Nutritionist author of the the HD Diet book, Keren Gilbert http://decisionnutrition.com/. From her I learned the things that might be simple or even obvious to some people but getting it drilled in my head was key at that time as is was approaching 290lbs. For me her approach of viewing food as fuel not just a leisure activity was hard to internalize for a self described foodie, leisure eater, stress eater, and late night gorger. It didn't come at once and was very very hard for me it took years with good progress constantly being undone my enemy... myself. She introduced me to the concept of finding foods that would provide fulfillment as a man like me has a need to feel full and the majority of what I ate only further pushed me to eat more (white flour, sugar etc). For me the two most important foods that I found to enforce this were Chia Seeds and GG Crackers (Drink an obscene amount of water). I began by including them with all meals and the meals began to shrink. When my progress got me to a size that actually no longer felt like I was dieting and I changed my approach again this time with the most important lesson from from my lessons with Keren: Don't Eat because you can but because you want to and need to. this removed the last 40lbs. Now I am where I want to be a middle aged man who is slightly chubby eating what I want through the prism of Keren's lessons combined with the knowledge that I need something that give's me that full feeling at any sitting. This is what worked for me and issues with weight. I wish everyone luck with their journey and I hope you can find what works for you.

So I have not kept a real journal just switch to eating a lot of GG Crackers with whatever I want to put on them. Its not great for everyone but for me it solves a critical problem I have with the desire to feel full. Also and maybe most importantly I have a IRON Stomache the issue that most get when eating these is a non event for me. it took me 8 months to get here.
