Hey,
I'm 24, just graduated from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor with a BA in history, and I am overweight. Although I will no doubt be going back for my masters and then my doctorate in American and global political history so that I can become a white haired old history professor in the future right now I aspire to earn a commission as a 2nd lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. I want to serve my country, I have always wanted to but a combination of familial pressure to goto college first and the indecision on my part whether it was the right path has held me back from ROTC and OCS between junior and senior year. Now in my first summer post graduation I seek to whip myself into shape so that I can sit in front of a recruiting officer unashamed and ready to take a pft. I want the challenge of OCS and TBS and the USMC but first I must prove to myself that I have what it takes to sign up and that means I need to be ready for a Personal Fitness Test (PFT). To get a Score of 300 I need 100 sit ups in 2 minutes, 20 dead hang pull ups, and run 3 miles in 18 minutes. This is a tall order for a history buff who spent his last 4 years sitting in the stacks sucking down energy drinks loaded with sugar and pouring over thick tomes concerning rare discussed events and times, but the USMC teaches adaptation and ove3rcoming adversity so I must display these skills in my own circumstances.
I have a long way to go but I am determined to work for the freedom and liberties I have enjoyed my whole life and studied through college and no one in my family line has paid for since WWII. I am committed, I am determined, and I will prevail. OoRah.
