Hello All-- This is the Road Rash Writer here. New to the community. I chose this calorie counter because so many of the other popular web or android based calorie counters and recorders rely on showing the nutritional value of fast foods or prepackaged foods we almost never eat. I hope this will allow me to do a better job of estimating the calories, protein, and carbs in the meals my husband makes. (He took over the cooking 2007 when he retired and I was working the night shift.)

I a retired nurse turned writer who loves biking, singing, knitting, and reading. When I turned 70 in 2017 I decided to quit dieting, but I gained more weight and my winter coat no longer fit. Since I live in southern Maine a winter coat is somewhat of a necessity. My blood pressure started to behave badly, as in 200/100. That in combination with having a new grandchild to be around for convinced me I needed to give losing weight one last try.

So now this retired nurse, who tried to do it herself, sees a board certified bariatrician and her staff. For the moment I am following their "Fast Five" program which is 5 weeks of letting them pick out shakes and protein bars + a dinner my husband cooks. In a month I've lost about 5 pounds, but that doesn't include the 3 pounds I regained over a week in which I was being plied with too much food, too much wine, and not enough exercise and then had to lose again. I am back on track now. Wish me luck!
