I recently did a 40-day water fast. Ive done 7 and ten day water fasts before, and I felt that this was appropriate for me, in order to lose some weight, and also for health reasons. At the height of my weight i weighed in at 197.5. After the 40 day water fast I love 37.5 pounds. In addition, my migraines (sharp stabbing sensations) and IBS went away. Because of my hip disease, and degenerative disk disease, I am on strong medications and I wanted to cleanse my body as much as possible. While I am not a Christian, I felt that the fast was very spiritual. I had increased presence, awareness, and felt that my body really needed this. The lumps everywhere in my body, fat lumps, I suppose, shrunk in size from 100 to 10 percent of their original size! Only two or three tiny lumps in my right lower hip quadrant did not significantly shrink, but I am now noticing changes in them. I must say that in the past five years my body has changed alot and I am not the kind of person who really can sit down and eat a plate of food in a restaurant, but it has been hard for me to change my eating patterns. In large, eating and cooking were just a couple of the things that I like doing that I could still do, so it was hard to give up. My health conditions basically mean that I stay at home, and move from the bed, to the sofa, to my desk chair in pain, and am that way 24 hours a day. Often times I spent days on the couch, unable to even sleep in my own bed because of pain, so my interest in losing weight quickly was because I could not go out and walk it off, or go to the gym, etc. So here I am. I started this log because I wanted to share with my friends, and with you. I wanted to share that losing weight, eating healthy, and gaining some control in one's life were indeed possible: If I—who have not been able to work for a year, who lives in pain virtually 24 hours a day-can do it, so can you. So I entered 165 because that is what I weigh. I eat pretty much anything and everything I want: I love food, I love cooking for people, and I love eating, but I needed to be more careful about what I was putting into my system, and what was happening because of the food and nutrients I was absorbing. Food is a drug, and it produces an effect. I am particularly interested in a couple of diets, and one is the Abs Diet, because it makes sense to me, and mirrors, to a large extent, the Barry Sears, PhD diet. Dr. Sears created a sports bar years ago, and that made sense to me, and thus his diet, the Zone. I like fruit, and I juice. I make my own yogurt, and I like cooking Asian, Indian, Vietnamese, French, Thai, Chinese, Malay, and on and on. I love Kim chi, Japanese, and Korean. I like baking and I worked and trained as a cook when i was younger, and I worked as a brunch chef in a vegetarian restaurant when I was younger, and as the head chef for a theater stock company in coastal Maine; as a broiler and fry chef in a seafood restaurant, as the head chef in a nursing home, and as a cook for a Tibetan Buddhist community. I do not personally hunt or kill food, but I do eat food that has been prepared, or killed. I don't go fishing, for example, but I do eat fish, if it is dead.
