Q: What's big, kinda old, and has x-ray vision?

A: Me. I lied about the x-ray vision.

My kids are grown and managed to survive "The Terrifying Adventures of Diet Mom" without being fat themselves. In fact, all five of my grandchildren are slender as well, as are the spouses of both my kids.

I have never really been THIN but I was a normal size until my kids were in double digits, and then my ability to reason where food was concerned seemed to go on the fritz.

I am sick of being the skinny person in the fat suit. I was not meant to be fat and only I can do something about that. So my plan is to log everything that I eat and drink, keep my calories as close to 1200 as I can, but not obsess if I happen to eat a little more now and then, and move as much as I can.

When I look too far in the future I get sidetracked from my diet because the journey seems too long.

When I have been successful in the past, it was because I saw dieting as a series of small decisions, made at the moment the temptation arose. I didn't worry about what I would do in a week or a month, but just right then.

So my advice for myself and others is to take changes one step at a time. And to be like a postage stamp: stick to it until I get there!
