I've been active in some way every day this week, which has been really great. Today my Fitbit sent me an email saying I received a "Penguin Award" for having some number of steps in a week, which I think is very funny because it has been so icy and slippery here recently that our university sent out a warning to students and encouraged them to "take small steps and walk like a penguin" to avoid falling down. Apparently Fitbit approves.
Scale tipped down slightly today, which is good to see. My body is sore from all the running and rock climbing and soccer and shoveling over the past few days so today I think I'll take it a little bit easy to give my muscles some recovery time.

Down another pound this morning! This weight (170) is the lowest number that has me categorized as "obese" according to BMI. Even though I know that these categories are not completely accurate or objectively true, and they certainly don't mean anything about someone's worth as a person, it still bothers me. I don't see myself as obese and the label really upset me when I took my health assessment. So, I look forward to shedding that label soon.
It's snowing again here--we are supposed to get 4-8 inches of snow today. I'm up early and it's quiet out.

I had a good day yesterday. It has been subzero temps here so that limits my ability to go on long walks with the dog (she says "no way!"). So, I went for a run at our local gym and got a good workout in. Normally I run with a friend and she is very good at setting a reasonable pace that we can keep up for a long time. Yesterday I was by myself and listening to upbeat music, so I went faster. Typically this means that I'll get worn out and not be able to run for very long. But, yesterday it went really well and I felt good while running! Later I was absolutely exhausted and couldn't stay awake past 10:00, which is not like me. But, that s fine. Meant that I also got a good nights sleep... I just left the kitchen a mess and didn't get done some other stuff that actually doesn't really matter that much. I'm a bit sore today, but not too bad.
The kids have been out of school all week because of snow accumulation, bad roads (it's hilly and rural where I live), and extremely cold temps. That's been a bit crazy. Honestly, though, next week they have state mandated testing at school, so I'm glad for them that they get a break this week, which otherwise would have been filled with practice tests every day. Uck.

More progress! This makes 7 pounds in my first two weeks. Even though I don't think I look any different, I can feel the difference when I exercise. That is motivating-- I feel just a little stronger and that makes me happy. I also find that with my Fitbit I'm encouraged to work at my standing desk rather than sitting down (we have desks that can be adjusted to different heights). I don't know if that makes any real difference in terms of weight loss, but I think it keeps me moving around more.
