The last 24 hours won't be noted for achievement and excellence. I kinda pigged out yesterday at lunch and had Vietnamese Grilled Chicken Vermicelli for lunch, one of my favorite dishes. They bring you a *huge* bowl of rice noodles, grilled chicken, lettuce, and chopped peanuts. It's yummy. Unfortunately, I finished off the whole thing, and was stuffed afterward. Apparently not so stuffed that I didn't have a package of peanuts and an apple towards evening.
Now for the positive, I didn't order a pizza last night, as much as I was craving it (pizza being one of my danger foods).
The end result of all this is, when I weighed myself before my run this morning, I was just where I was yesterday this time. It could have been worse, and I'm very proud that I didn't give into the pizza craving.
I also only ran for 30 mins this morning because I had some time constraints, but I had more energy than yesterday..

steady weight
03 February 2010
It was raining this morning during my run. It was that steady, soaking rain that the ground in Texas is starving for. It's also the kind of rain which, combined with the 46F outside temperature and a light breeze, spits in your face the entire time you're running around a dark, lonely track. I like it :-)
It's taking (and will continue to take) a lot of determination, but I know that the payoff is worth it in the end... This my friends, is what is known as "the grind." It's a time when the effort seems to be getting harder and the payoff is still over some hill, past some horizon.
I know this initial weight loss I'm seeing is mostly water weight and that I won't be able to sustain this. Still, so long as I level off to achieve a steady 1-2 pounds a week, I'll be content. I'm fighting the evening hunger and the urge to snack. When I eat, I am eating sloowwwwly, chewing my food, enjoying every single bite. The appetite control portion will become easier over time; your stomach tends to shrink and the amount of food needed to feel "full" will gradually decrease.
It doesn't help however to work at a company that has a fully stocked free kitchen, with cupcakes, muffins, fig newtons, honey buns, danishes, any kind of soft drink you want, doritos, and yes my friends, even candy bars.
My defense against all that is:
1. My determination to get to a 33 waist again (a bulging 38 now)
2. This awesome website which keeps you honest. It's a constant reminder of my greater goal. I am now looking forward to coming on (or just using my Droid) to enter weigh-ins, foods I've eaten, or my workouts.

losing 10.5 lb a week
02 February 2010
Day three of getting up at 4:00am and running for four miles. It was not as cool today as yesterday, but the track was misty. I had noticeably less energy today than I did yesterday, but that's to be expected when your calorie intake is less than 1100 calories. I'm a bit sore now at work as well, but that's just getting used to reusing all my muscles again. Thankfully, there's no soreness whatsoever in my tendons.
