Hola! 37 year old funky Texas chick here who loves karaoke, martial arts (I just started back to Tae Kwon Do after an 11 year hiatus) and shopping! :) I work in the oil & gas industry, and have an office that is always full of food and goodies to avoid!

I started my journey 2 months ago on a Dr provided low carb plan, and have lost 27 lbs up to this point (11.12.11), and he has now decided to give his full support to Atkins, so here I am to start the Induction Phase!

My current goal is to lose 60 lbs from my start weight of 256, and then go from there. I do not have the desire to be "thin", but instead, I want to be the weight and size my body is most comfortable with, while maintaining the activity level right for my lifestyle. I work out 3-4 x per week, I do tae kwon do 2 x per week and looking to add some yoga in there somewhere.

One other possibility that I have noticed, people can sometimes have a hard time with roles change.

You said that you are the only heavy person in your circle of friends, so your role is now going to be changing. I am not saying that your friends are intentionally reacting that way, but subconsciously we all have labels for the friends in our circle - "the quiet one", "the pretty one", "the smart one", and so on and so forth, so, with your surgery complete and you on your road to a healthier you, your role in the circle will change.

Exactly what the above said, don't take it personally, and spend this time focusing on you, and what you need to do in order to get to where you want to be. They will more than likely come around eventually.

life change
Well, my wake up call was some photos of me at a singing competition. I didn't even recognize the girl in the pictures, and I made up my mind then and there that I was done. Period. What keeps me going? Never wanting to feel that way again. Smile I've always been super confident, smaller or larger, so I just want my outside to match the way my inside feels!

How long did you think it would take...
My total goal is yet undetermined, but my current goal is to lose 60 lbs, which I gave myself a year to do so. I am currently WAY ahead of schedule, but I know as I get down into weight that has been hangin' around a while, my loss will slow down, and I am completely and utterly fine with that.

As long as the weight is coming off, and I am feeling and looking better, I am fine with a year time frame without any disappointment.

Setting unrealistic goals leads to so much disappointment, so I wanted to make sure my goal was attainable, and reasonable. I hear so many people give up and quit because they have only lost 25 lbs instead of the 30 they wanted to lose by a certain time frame. Heck, 25 lost is certainly better than 25 gained! Smile Smile

Goal Weight decision ?
I went with an intial goal to get under 200 lbs (60 lbs lost puts me at 196), and then I am going to go from there. I want something maintainable, and right for **me**. I don't really believe in the charts, as they do not take into consideration a person's body make-up, bone structure, etc., at least that is my personal feeling on them. LOL I am sure others have their opnions and feelings. Smile I just want to be at a good weight that feels good to **me**!

Extra or Sagging Skin?
Hey everyone. Well, I knew it was probably inevitable, as I'm not as young as I used to be, on top of having skin issues already (super dry eczemic skin), but I've started noticing a little bit of loose skin!!

On my thighs.

ACK!!!

I've been doing a lot of googling, and I have read everything from ridiculous ads that promise overnight results, to "oh that's just more fat you need to lose", or surgery, and everything in between.

Does anyone have any real life "know from experience" kind of advice for me? I am exercising, both cardio and strength training, on top of karate, so I know that I'm covered there.

Any other helpful hints?

Thanks so much!!!!
