Dwaller1875's Journal, 06 March 2017

I have been doing exactly what I am supposed to for the diet I am on, and until the past week, I was losing weight on it. Then last Monday I hit my all time low. Since Tuesday of last week I somehow have put 4 lbs back on, even though I have been following my diet. At first, I thought that maybe I had cut my carbs too much so I ate a full carb meal, thinking that it would "reset" my metabolism and I could get right back on track to losing weight. Now I know that wasn't the case at all. I went right back to eating LC but have still being seeing an increase in my weight. I know that there are times that we hit a wall when trying to lose weight, but this is ridiculous!! I guess I will keep plugging on and see what happens this week. I am planning to cut my carbs a little more and see if things start going in the right direction again. I am just so frustrated that this past week hasn't gone my way.
206.2 lb Lost so far: 28.4 lb.    Still to go: 16.2 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

Diet Calendar Entry for 06 March 2017:
300 kcal Fat: 15.00g | Prot: 27.00g | Carb: 22.00g.   Breakfast: Atkins Milk Chocolate Delight Shake. Snacks/Other: Atkins Advantage Morning Chocolate Chip Crisp Bar. more...
gaining 2.8 lb a week

Going through something similar as well. But looking at my history (from past weight-loss efforts) I can see that this does happen. We are led to believe that weight loss is linear and our efforts will create immediate results. That exercise + caloric restriction = pounds lost. But bodies are not machines and a little water retention can show up on the scale. Carry on. Tomorrow may be different and you may not need to change anything about what you are doing yet.

Thank you Trackin64 for your comment. It may sound weird but it does help to know that someone else is in the same boat as me. I know that there are many possible reasons why I may be gaining right now. I am hoping that this gain is as simple as the combo of the Augmentin and Medrol I was on a couple weeks ago for a sinus infection. I haven't really changed the way I have been eating except I added in Atkins granola bars, but those are 3 Net grams each and I have not been eating but one a day with my morning Atkins shake. Then I have a small lunch ( usually dinner leftovers or an Atkins microwave meal) and then a low carb dinner cooked from fresh ingredients. I do think we have a weird way of looking at weight loss, and that we expect results so much faster than we put the weight on. I know it took me 5 years to get to the point I was at when I began this weight loss journey and I know that it won't be an overnight loss, but I just get discouraged when I am doing what I should and I see a gain when I expect a loss. It makes me doubt myself. I feel like maybe I delude myself into believing that I can do this and make it stick this time, when in reality I am destined to be fat forever. My DH says that he loves me no matter what, but it feels nice to hear my kids and Hubby say that they are proud of me, and to look at me differently (the way they have been lately). I'm afraid that if I don't get over this bump in the road I will backslide and will end up bigger than I was before I started this time. I think I would disappoint my DH and my kids, not to mention myself. I want to be healthy so I will be able to play with my grand babies, and to just plain be here to see them. I don't want to die prematurely because I wasn't disciplined enough to stay away from the donuts.

Ohhhh, I have a couple of thoughts after reading your "thank you." One is, the sugar alcohols in the Atkins bars could pose a problem. I used to be on the Atkins support site (before they changed it) and many people reported stalling or gaining when using those bars. I personally used the shakes and didn't experience any difficulty but the shakes don't have sugar alcohols. Second thing is, the antibiotic could cause a problem. I've never had it happen to me, but a friend of mine said she gained 15 lbs after doing a round of antibiotics. I don't know which one she was on, though. Don't let it throw you. Try eliminating those bars and see what happens.

P.S. You're 28 lbs down - and that's great! Choose your own "weight destiny" - you DO have a choice. Some of us just have to be more careful than others in order to keep our weight in check. Get some probiotics to undo what the antibiotics did to your gut bacteria, if you haven't already done so.
