Gastro Patient's Journal, 13 November 2016

Am feeling pretty well, all in all. Have been eating more full meals than I should...need to go back to the multiple small meal regime, with generally less food in the day. Have been enjoying wine a lot, perhaps too much. I need to switch from red to white, to shelter the esophagus from LES weakness, but, oh, those reds are my joy! Had a glass and a half of high-rated Rhone cheapie with my omelette this morning. I also should switch back to decaf coffee, in hopes that bending over might feel more comfortable--gotta clean out the perennial garden before the snow flies.

Two of my three doctors have dismissed me, plus the dietitian--no longer need their supervision. Last doctor app't is coming up soon and I'll probably be dismissed by her also.

Garden is still providing a few foods, despite it being almost Thanksgiving here in Minn. Global warming is a terrible thing, but our new long growing season is giving us short-term dividends, sigh.

Am doing better and better with low-FODMAP foods, which makes me much more comfortable. Naturally, my weight would be less if I could get my bowels working, but at least they eject _something_ once in a while. Am trying a new med for constipation. Have purchased some enzyme pills to eat with meals to aid digestion, but ginger in all its forms remains my best friend.

I volunteered to host the family Thanksgiving meal this year. I want to get a turkey now while there are special prices, but don't have much freezer space so I probably should wait. Will serve low-FODMAP stuffing...using cheap Vienna bread if it's still available. (Vienna, French, Italian, and sourdough are all the same dough, at the local Cub stores; I can tolerate a couple slices at least, because the starter in them has bacteria that eat the wheat's fructose.) Our onions in the baskets in the garage are already sprouting shoots, so I can use the green shoots in the stuffing also. (Garage isn't cold enough, sigh. I hope we don't lose all the onions...in previous years they lasted into the late winter.) My sage plant has plenty of sage flavoring for the stuffing. Might also add lingonberries from Alaska to the stuffing.

We have plenty of winter squash for the party, and brussels sprouts. Maybe I will make a pumpkin pie, if the pumpkin doesn't rot in the warm air this week.

To all who are reading this, enjoy your properly-functioning digestive system and its many blessings. --Gastro Patient
