Mousy1109's Journal, 15 August 2016

My weight loss has been a little stagnant lately, so I finally made the decision to complete a three day fast. My weigh in definitely reflects that! Technically, my fast ends tonight at 7pm, but I am going to hold off until tomorrow morning at 7am instead, meaning that it will be an 84 hour fast when complete. It hasn't been as hard to accomplish as I originally thought it would be. I do all of the cooking at my house, so I was a little worried about meal times, but it hasn't been an issue at all. I think that this fast was really good for me on a mental level because it reminded me that I am as strong as my own determination allows. With all that being said, I hope that my weight doesn't do an Olympic style jump back up after I go back to eating tomorrow. I am, however, very mindful about that possibility and how to address it.

On another note, I was very excited to see that yesterday marked my 11 month anniversary of truly working on my weight. I am very excited to see what the next month will bring and how far I will get before I reach the one year mark. Everything looked so unachievable and far away when I first started. Now, I can see the big picture when I look back and reflect on the journey. I think that that is the real difference maker, seeing it as a journey instead of a quick sprint. I know that God has been very purposeful (and even gentle) when giving me these lessons. Have a great week buddies!

A tremendous weight loss, but I feel an 84 hour fast is a bit extreme. You don't want to do yourself harm.

Mousey, I knew you had it in you. A lot of people think fasting will just kill them. WELL WELCOME TO THE IF FAMILY!!!! The longer fasts have a stigma surrounding them. When in all actuality, fasts as long as 2 weeks can be extremely beneficial. I have never undertaken a 2 weeks fast of course. I stick to the three days fasts when I decided on a longer one. They are predominantly for breaking the homeostasis(the set point your body is comfortable at body fat wise.) A lot of people hit that thinking it is a plateau. In a way it is. But a 3 days fast pretty much resets it. Keep up the amazing work Mousey.

And and to those of you worried about mousey doing damage, please educate yourself on Fasting. It isn't going to hurt her in any way shape or form. On the contrary, it is EXTREMELY beneficial to the body and a HUGE part of how I have lost 113 pounds in less than 6 months.

As with any option, folks with certain medical conditions need to prepare and check on this. If you are considering it, know what the effects of fasting will be and how to manage them. There is mixed information on fasting, consider all of it, and make an educated choice. I am not pro or anti-fasting, just wanting people to be thoughtful in their plans.

Hence why I said to educate yourself on it.

Ok, Tell me. What health issues does fasting make worse? I really want to know.

M there are many resources on the web to consider fasting, both supporters and those that offer cautions and concerns associated with it. It is not my intent to engage in a sidetrack from your posting by engaging with K. My apologies if you found my comments offensive to you. j

Knuckles, you are NEVER a bother to me! Your experience and advice is greatly appreciated by me and you are ALWAYS welcome on my threads! I like the fact that others are willing to mentor and guide me along the keto way, especially since I was the one seeking out the advice from you. I appreciate everyone's concerns, but in all honesty, I have thought about this for awhile and I took the time to research it. I took in information from the internet, from the personal experience of others, and then also from my own experiences. I have no health issues other than being overweight, so no medical issues to be concerned about. My body was already conditioned for it because I have been doing it daily on a smaller scale without even realizing it. And in all honesty, I haven't struggled with it at all...which has surprised even me. If I had struggled with it (felt dizzy, experienced a medical emergency, was getting physically sick from it, or even just felt the need to start chewing on my own arm from hunger) then I would have simply ended it. My amazing husband and kids were right there with me supporting and watching my three day journey. I have no plans to fast this long on a regular basis, but I was instead doing it as a way to wake my body up and get it going again. Like I said in my original post, this fast showed me a lot about my mental strength. I am so glad that I did it and I am very proud of my self. As far as the actual results, I think only time will tell.

I was actually really excited to see that you responded to my post, Knuckles. Not only were you willing to give me some advice and guidance, but it also showed that you cared enough to follow up with me. Thanks for that!

Mskestrela and Erikahollister, I have been following you guys on here and I thought we were already buddies, but I just realized that we are not. I just sent you guys a request. :) Thanks for the encouragement all! I know that there are a lot of diverse opinions on here, but that diversity allows us to see many points of view and success on many different WOEs. I love that those differences in opinions don't stop any of you from supporting me and encouraging me! I have really grown so much from all of the love and support that I receive on this site. Have a good night buddies!

Losing 112 pounds is MAJOR - I have no doubt you will get anywhere you want to go!

That's an awesome drop, I had a similar drop when I did a three-day fast, and I've maintained a pretty strict fasting schedule while eating some "taboo" foods since and it's kept me in a maintenance balancing act that is easily sustainable and poses zero health risks. You've done exceptionally well, great work!
