You can set your RDI (recommended daily intake) to whatever you choose. Fat Secret will calculate for you based on your weight, gender and activity level, but that gives you a calorie level for maintaining your current weight, which isn't what most of us are after here. You can look around at other people's settings or just pick something that seems reasonable to start off with, then tinker with it as you go. I started at 2000, then have lowered it by 200 every few weeks. I lose a little weight at 1400-1600, and more weight at 1200. Some people eat less than 1000 cal and lose pretty fast. So, it's a matter of choice: how much you need to eat vs. how fast you want to lose / balanced of course with how much energy you are expending. You can adjust as you go. At he bottom of the daily food page is a pie chart and below that a little blue note to click on to adjust your RDI. It will take you to the calculator; there you can just type in the amount you'd like to track everyday to customize your settings. Hope that's helpful.

The calories burned is a little deceptive, because they alot a lot of calories for just being alive. You can track activity and exercise. Tinker with that one too. A couple of pages down on the blog here, you'll find a discussion about the activity tracker. Look for that one.
