The key is to make it simple enough that you don't have an excuse not to do it. I checked with a trainer friend. To minimize knee pain while doing lunges, keep your step out in line with your hip and your shoulder. Larger persons may find that the weight causes knee strain. If so, take a shorter step out and don't dip as low. Contrastingly, if the lunges are easy, do a few more or add a hop between each lunge.
171.5 lb Lost so far: 12.5 lb.    Still to go: 21.5 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.
