December tends to be a stressful time of year for most people. As the holiday festivities kick into high gear, most of us use this time to go into excess...drinking, eating, etc. My life is no exception. My old patterns of behavior were to eat during stressful times and my new patterns of behavior have left all of that behind. This has created a new set of "learnings" for me, which involve dealing with stress without calories being involved. At my worst, it feels like my fuse is much shorter (actually, I think it's the same, I can no longer hide behind food). At my best, I feel just great.

I got through Thanksgiving just fine, I didn't cheat and I even made that thanksgiving dinner! Christmas will be the same, although the food temptations will abound.

Finally, I learned this week through medical advice that the key to living long is "thinner is better." Our early human ancestors did not eat like we do, and in fact had to work very hard for the food they did have. We survive quite well as a species on less food, not more. And the studies show that thinner folks live longer. That's the camp I want to be in!
